Quote of the Day: Inexperience
“In America the young are always ready to give those who are older the full benefits of their inexperience.” — Oscar Wilde
Are we ever seeing examples of this over the last few weeks. In Seattle, the young (and privileged) set up an autonomous zone that immediately devolves from their intended socialist paradise to something out of Lord of the Flies. They tear down statues of Grand and abolitionist Union leaders because of slavery or something. They threaten to topple a statue of Lincoln – paid for and erected by former slaves because white racism, or something. They demand everyone think just like they do because truth, or something.
In reality, they are just illustrating their ignorance and inexperience, something we are getting the full benefit of.

It is not just the young.
It’s the stupid?
It’s the tenured.
Thank you, College.
I read the quotation to my wife, who is an administrator at a studio arts school that awards master’s degrees. We were laughing pretty hard. When I named the quoted person, we both said at the same time, “Things have not changed.” That led to more laughing. Then she asked me to dictate it so she could text it to her boss (the director of the school who has been the major target of vitriol and correction from the students). I have a feeling this quotation will make the day of a few people outside of Ricochet.
This is the Quote of the Day. Even if your favored quotation is not as timeless as Mr. Wilde’s thoughts, why not share it with us anyway? Go sign up.
No, it’s the older ones who like Lenin learned from the mistakes of the past, and knew that to have a successful revolution they’d have to be brutal and constrained by no scruples.
It immediately devolved into something out of Lord of the Flies because it has to.
Well . . . yeah. Us grey-hairs knew it would. Youth, in the full bloom of its impervious inexperience expected otherwise.
They expected Hogwarts, I guess, because that is the only set of books that they have ever read.
They didn’t read closely enough. That society is discriminatory as hell. Remember the disdain the muggles are held in.
Muggles == Republicans.
