The Racism, Inc. mobs are being taken over by the Woke Liberal Woman. As protests for social justice spread, the images of (mostly white) women pressing against metal barriers, shouting shrill, incoherent nonsense at the police increasingly remind me of Frank Costanza in Seinfeld, blowing off his pent-up frustration by yelling “Serenity NOW!” at the sky. But the therapeutic propensities of the outrage mob are nothing more than progressive posturing. The woke kingdom signals allegiance to victimhood rather than the American ideal of liberty and freedom.

The women we see lashing out at police in front of the White House, at the base of historical monuments, and in the streets next to violent rioters are the older version of their college-age models. Perhaps they majored in Women’s Studies. They attended all the office hours of radical professors who had shrines to Margaret Sanger. Maybe they even went to a Gender Conference to soak up feminist-inclusive wisdom from Gloria Steinem. Now they are soaked in the poisonous lie that they live as oppressed victims of the white patriarchy. And as any good self-indulgent narcissist would act, they took a cause for justice after the murder of George Floyd and turned it into a chance to be the rebellious ‘bad girl’ they cosplayed in college.

After the thorough defeat of their progressive crusader, Hillary Clinton, the Pink Hat brigade needed a new beat to march to and the Black Lives Matter drum hit the right note. They could join another cause that would reinforce their victim identity while claiming a common enemy in President Trump, the white male patriarchy, and America itself. Jennifer Palmieri, Communications Director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign wrote an article for Vanity Fair on June 16, in which she managed to both blame white women for enabling the racist American caste system and called for the advancing real change for equality by standing with the will of the mob, wherever that may lead. She writes, “We also have to understand that despite our best intentions, there is nothing we can do or say that will bridge the chasm between a concerned white person’s experience and that of a Black person. We can’t be spokespeople, but we can be allies.”

Ms. Palmieri pulls off a neat trick: she proves her commitment to Big Racism by writing the equivalent to House Democrats’ knee bending photo-op in the Capitol. But she also inserts a reminder that women are still suffering under a system of oppression that is inherently American. It’s a call-to-arms for all the #MeToo marchers they have a new hobby in which to express themselves. And what makes it so appealing to them is they can self-soothe their privilege guilt by lending themselves to the destruction of a nation that has provided the most opportunity for oppressed people in the world.

These women don’t have to worry themselves with the problems of the communities a few blocks away. They can shout obscenities at the police who would be the first to answer her call if a kid was hit by a car riding his bike. They think themselves (S)heroes because they show up to topple a monument to actual American heroes – emancipators like Abraham Lincoln and Colonel Hans Christian Heg. They only know destruction, never creation. It takes no courage to be part of a mob hell-bent on toppling anything created to honor our history, only self-righteous anger.

My husband and I have been making weekly trips to the pet food shelf in Minneapolis. We make a point to drive down East Lake Street or Chicago Avenue to see any progress after the violent riots. There’s not much left to see but graffiti, boarded storefronts, and burned-out cars and buildings. The Fifth Precinct Police building looks like a military checkpoint – surrounded by cinderblock walls, layers of fencing, and barbed wire-topped by enormous mobile floodlights. We don’t see many white women out there shouting and marching for the recent rash of shootings – mostly of young black people, including Tuesday’s fatal shooting and nine people shot the day before in three separate incidents in north Minneapolis and 12 shot over the past weekend. The community is left trying to keep afloat in a sinking city. Where are all those people who were quick to bail out the very rioters complicit in the violence? It’s heartbreaking to hear the pleas of people like Lisa Clemons of the community group A Mother’s Love, who wants to work with police to curb the violence, not disband them.

But Ms. Clemons’ story is a mere inconvenience when one has been brainwashed by an education system teaching the false narrative of America as the Great Oppressor. It’s no surprise when she grows up looking to topple anything associated with a racist, misogynistic history. The woke women hitch their wagons to Racism, Inc. because they self-victimize around the general suffering under a history of which they have no personal interaction, yet they react to it as the most personal tragic experience. Women have it better in America today than any other time or place in history, yet feminists act as though the suffrage movement is at once their present station and their personal wound. Consequently, they feel they’re owed a right to both victimhood restitution and placement on a pedestal of unassailable indemnity.

For them, the only thing left to do is burn down the whole system. But if that is allowed, if our city and state leaders let one monument after another topple, there won’t be any objective history remaining. America sits squarely with its original sin. We have taken steps towards the ideal of equality and opportunity-for-all that our Founders envisioned but didn’t attain in their lifetimes. We provide space for peaceful protest and a loyalty to free expression almost to a fault. But for the mindless mob, commonsense is not a common virtue. When we have professors like Sarah Parcak lending their pitchforks through explicit instruction we can expect more of the same until the next outrage captures their attention, or there’s just nothing left to burn.
