Amy, I do like the post.
I question this portion:
What does this have to do with being Jewish? NYC shut down the parks, and maybe that was excessive, though the number of COVID deaths in NYC was particularly high. At this particular park, reportedly, the park gates were locked and the lock was repeatedly cut. So they welded the gates shut.
I don’t see how this has anything to do with it being a heavily Jewish neighborhood.
I also don’t know why you think that DeBlasio particularly dislikes devout Jewish people, as opposed to other devout religious people.
I’m no fan of DeBlasio, but I really don’t like this sort of thing. The way it comes across, to me, is that it doesn’t matter if the Mayor does something arguably stupid in a neighborhood of ordinary, boring white folks. This is an inherent problem with identity politics, I think.
I wish I felt as confident about this as you do. A lot has happened in the last few years that make me wonder.
It appears to me that he really has been singling out Jewish people, though. And I hate to go there, but it’s almost . . . Hitlerish.
Hi Amy:
You stated:
There is no way, not without massive law enforcement presence (good luck with that right now, in the midst of #DefundThePolice) or martial law that people will willingly enter into lockdowns if there’s a second wave this fall or winter.
It. Will. Not. Happen.
My community in Lake County Calif was one of the largest ever evacuations for its time. Around 7Am on the morning of Sunday Sept 14th 2015, 2800 households were herded into their vehicles and made to leave the area, with the fire marshals and police telling us we were under imminent threat of being incinerated.
The wind coming down on the neighborhood was originating from an area that was quite far away, but the smoke convinced most of us to obey our lords and masters and leave.
It turned out after the dust was settled that this whole excursion had been a training exercise for the fire fighters and police.
The upshot of the evacuation strategy is that now, every single time they try to evacuate our area for a wildfire, 2/3rds of us will not leave.
I tend to believe that in 2020, Bill Gates and his proxies had one and only one shot at convincing all Americans that the “experts” get to dictate how our lives are handled. It is clear that half of all Americans watch too much TV and believe what the “experts” tell us about COVID, but the rest do not.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and all the authorities will get is a clear view of my middle finger.
I read the New York Post every day, and there is clearly hostility between deBlasio and Hasidic Jews. A few days ago he himself violated all the rules in the protest marches. Then he ordered the gates to parks welded shut.
Great essay Amy!
Are you suggesting there’s a double standard here? Of course you are, and rightfully so. Where is the MSM coverage of all the riots protesting the ambush killings of police officers? Oh, I forgot. There weren’t any . . .
I regret that we will totally go back under lockdown if the government calls for it, because the businesses we would need to not go back under lockdown will not have a choice in the matter.
