The Seattle Zone
What odd times we live in!
When Seattle’s mayor, in response to intractable protests, withdrew the police from a four-block area of Seattle near the capital, the protesters established that area as the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ, later changed to CHOP for Capital Hill Occupied Protest zone, hereinafter referred to as the Zone) where the police were excluded and some of the participants claimed it to be a sovereign and independent nation based on principles of social justice. No formal governing body has been set up in the Zone so far, but certain principles have apparently been agreed upon.
Progressives claimed they wanted open borders, or something similar to that. One of the first things they did was put up barricades at the borders and enforce them with armed guards. People who wanted to enter the Zone were interrogated at the border.
Progressives claim they are for justice, and then they showed that there is no justice in social justice. Rather, their social justice is all the old ills of society in a new guise. For example, racism and sexism becomes intersectionalism. Theft and extortion becomes reparations and socialism. And it’s all based on group rather than individual responsibility.
They claimed they were against racism, and they immediately began a practice of disparate treatment of people based on race. The only difference was that people of color, trans people, etc., were at the top of their hierarchy, which enforced concrete differences in benefits and privileges people got from the Zone.
They claimed they were for diversity and proposals for a Zone governing council exclude whites.
They claimed they were against capitalism and vendors put their wares up for sale all over the zone.
They were unhappy with municipal governments that rely on arms to enforce the law. They wanted the police limited or abolished, but they found that they had to rely on the threat of violence to keep peace in the Zone. So armed vigilantes stroll around and occasionally stop and question people who they regard as suspicious. Undesirable people like conservative journalists have been expelled from the Zone. The vigilantes band together under the leadership of a warlord figure to respond to significant altercations.
It seems to me that the CHAZ/CHOP is a comprehensive refutation of the progressive agenda that participants of the Zone purport to represent.

Between the lyrics of “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and The Beatles “Revolution”, it’s surprising how well some of the rock bands of the late 1960s/early 1970s had the leftist radicals of that era pegged. The bad part, as CHAZ/CHOP is showing, people very well will get fooled again, and will buy into ideas of progressive utopianism, which quickly become the same type of authoritarianism they were attacking in the first place, only in this case with no line of higher appeal to popular opinion (i.e. — Jenny Durken may be hoping that by putting permanent barricades up around CHAZ/CHOP and appeasing the people inside, she’s going to get this to eventually peter out, and all the activists will go home when they get bored or when mom says dinner’s ready. More likely the case is even more of the areas criminally-inclined and mentally unstable will see CHAZ/CHOP as a law enforcement-free safe zone and the progressive vigilante patrols are going to have to step up their counter-measures or be overwhelmed. It will eventually end, but not the way Mayor Durken wants it to end).
Justice is giving to each what he is due. Social justice is nearly the opposite: Giving to each what is due another. “Social,” the first word in the phrase, refers to a mentally constructed collective: Society. Trying to apply justice – which makes sense only on the level of the individual – to collections of individuals, distinguished only by some shared trait or interest, must always yield injustice.
Well, I haven’t read a newspaper in a while, so I’m a few laps behind. When did all that happen? During my nap, I imagine.

HL Mencken comes to mind once again. The Seattle voters voted for this. I haven’t been in Seattle for a while but I used to be there a lot. Capitol Hill was the hippie/gay zone if I recall. They really voted for this. I see no need to intervene. Maybe they will start to branch out toward Bellevue and Bill Gates’ house. The Olympia Mayor had visitors. She called them “Urban Terrorists.” Apparently she is capable of learning at least a little.
I think the word “progressive,” when used to apply to far-leftists, is funny. They apparently want to revert to an agrarian economy where people barter for food, even though, based on their “garden,” they have no idea how to grow it. They lack the intellectual capacity to win debates, so they resort to gang violence. Their idea of art is to spray paint genitalia on walls. It’s pretty REgressive.
The mayor may agree to tolerate this little “Lord of the Flies” tantrum. The governor may be willing to tolerate it. Trump may even be willing to tolerate it, for political purposes. But my guess is the IRS won’t tolerate people who “declare” an “independent state” and stop paying taxes, even on the meager income they earn. That’s basically how Al Capone ended up at Alcatraz. I can only hope.

Somebody on another thread (I of course can’t find it now) offered as evidence that it probably is a troll, pointing out that the sentences are coherent, and don’t contain multiple profanities. Incoherent statements and frequent uses of profanity are the hallmarks of protestor statements.
Don’t make the mistake of underestimating the enemy.

The people who are of no consequence to the government or the rioters or the New York Times or the Washington Post or CBS or NBC or ABC or … are the citizens. The 911 tapes will make great ads for October. Tucker Carlsen did a good job with one from a different city last night, a restaurant owner trying to rescue his patrons and others trapped on the street when the rioters come for them all. The police watched passively from a safe distance.
Time for some 2nd Amendment rallies. Masks optional.
No doubt the police were waiting for something actually serious to happen.
