Mayor Lightweight Says No to ‘Vigilantism’ in Chicago

Disturbed by reports of white men patrolling their Bridgeport neighborhood with baseball bats, and with no apparent awareness of the irony in her statement, Mayor Lori Lightweight decried these citizens’ attempt to protect their community and property while Chicago law enforcement is unavailable or focused elsewhere.

“… we’re not about to allow that practice to happen here in Chicago. If there’s an issue, call 911,” Lightfoot said. “I absolutely support neighbors being vigilant as to what’s going on on the streets and in their blocks but taking up arms, that leads to chaos and we’re not supporting vigilantism in the city of Chicago under any circumstances.”

So, the Mayor is against “vigilantism” but is apparently all right with Antifa and BLM rioters burning, pillaging, and destroying other people’s property in an effort to bring about chaos and enforce “social justice,” an empty phrase that has no meaning.

Democrats have had political control in all the major cities in the U.S. for many years. These inept and empty-headed leaders have allowed homelessness, crime, and now anarchy to rule the day.

Sadly, Mayor Lightweight’s “identity vigilantism” is a concept that is likely to spread.

I can’t speak to Chicago specifically, but what do these people expect when they justify rioting and looting as legitimate expressions of frustration, and talk seriously of “defunding” (eliminating) police departments and jails? Once they allow mobs of one type to take over, they should expect multiple types of mobs to appear.

And people who can leave will leave. And what happens to those trapped.

Clearly all the residents of these cities are NOT rioting.

And there is the crime by these leftist  government leaders: abandoning those who are truly trapped.

Fyi: this is democracy gone mad. Which is why we have a republic.

There were 75 police officers standing guard around her Logan Square house the other evening as a “peaceful” protest marched by.  Meanwhile, she cannot bring herself to say the word “police,” and has hired private security guards from a company with a sketchy record to patrol the south and west sides because she and her hand-picked police chief are incompetent.

    Oh, splendid.

Incredibly, a guard who was working for one of the contracted firms was accused of killing a suspected shoplifter by kneeling on the man’s neck outside a Walmart on the Northwest side in 2017. That’s exactly how a Minneapolis police officer killed George Floyd two weeks ago, leading to widespread protests, riots, and looting. The guard, who was working for Monterrey Security, told police he was a full-time law enforcement officer. He wasn’t and he didn’t even have a PERC card, the most basic license needed to work as an unarmed security guard in Illinois, according to state records.

That’ll work out. It’ll be fine.

    BLM boomerang from Rasmussen Reports:

“The Rasmussen poll on Friday, June 5, found that President Donald Trump’s job approval rating among African American voters peaked at all-time high of 41% in the wake of the rioting related to the death of George Floyd.

According to the new poll, President Trump has an overall approval rating of 48% given the pandemic crisis and ongoing widespread protests sparked by the death of Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.

Of 41% likely black voters who support the president, 25% said they “strongly support” what he is doing. The poll even showed that 15% of Democrats “strongly approve” the president’s job.

She was sure singing a different tune a month ago when people were protesting her lockdown orders. “We will cite, arrest you and jail you if you violate stay-at-home orders.” The level of hypocrisy is as obvious and stunning as anything I’ve ever witnessed. The Left falsely and without evidence claims disparate treatment by society of certain racial groups, but it is they who treat people differently based on ideology and political party.

As a Chicago Loop resident, I stopped to thank a few of the police officers who were standing around on Thursday and one of them spoke to me for a little longer. I asked him about a few of the things I’d heard in the local news about a lack of organization from City Hall/Lightfoot/Pritzker, and he told me that many of the police captains had been sent out without radios to manage the crowds & rioting on the first Saturday of the protests- the worst day by far when 50 police vehicles were burned beyond recognition. I asked why that was, and he replied, “we can only do what City Hall lets us do” which tells you just about everything you need to know. Just to add, he seemed very even-keeled and not someone who just wanted to vent to anyone who seemed vaguely sympathetic.

    Mike,

If you know the police will come and protect you and your neighborhood and you don’t call them but prefer to “do it yourself” that would be vigilantism. However, when you know full well that the police aren’t coming or by the time they get there your property will be destroyed and you or your family will be dead, then it is your duty to yourself to exercise your right of self-defense and your private right to your own property.

The Mayor is full of it.

    Regards,

    Jim

Vigilantism is a no-no, but protests and riots are legitimate forms of expression.

I would hope that the physically capable residents of neighborhoods (Bridgeport was where the real Mayor Daley lived!) would know enough to hold nighttime protests that could degenerate into riots at the approach of aggressive outsiders.
