NYPD Targeting Jews While Brooklyn Burns

Adding this to the long list of occasions over the last two months where the City of New York and its government (led by Bill DeBlasio) has decided to divert much-needed resources into Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn in order to intimidate and harass its residents.

This is among the more shocking examples; while protestors are burning down police vans and throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers, the NYPD has created a caravan of squad cars to drive through Boro Park, where some Jewish-owned stores are carefully and peacefully conducting commerce.

This kind of targeting cannot get lost amid the larger issues going on currently. It’s clear we have a policing problem and it’s not exclusive to communities of color, and in this instance, it appears to be coming from the very top of City government.

This would be a great moment for the divergent communities of Boro Park to come together and demand change.

It’s like Obama preventing WW2 veterans from visiting the WW2 memorial in DC during the 2013 shutdown. These people have their priorities.

Well clearly if the police weren’t in Jewish neighborhoods there would be fires and looting.

Those damned Jews.  They’re liable to get out of control at any moment.

Are they preventing anyone else from working? Like all over the country, business owners have been struggling against government enforcement of the quarantines… not just Jews.

All over the country, rioters are committing arson, but the ones being arrested are the business owners protecting their businesses from looters.

So, how is this draconian and mercurial enforcement specifically targeted at Jews?

It might be as simple as the cops preferring to “do their jobs” dealing with law-abiding, well-behaved Jews than with rioters and looters. Who wouldn’t rather sit inside his car eating a donut outside a deli, rather than mixing it up with rioters throwing bricks at you? It’s the same reason cops much prefer writing tickets to you and me than chasing down illegals driving cars with no license or insurance.  It’s not admirable, and a sign of the decay of our fundamental institutions, but that might be all it is.

Or it might be more than that. I just think we shouldn’t rule out the banal explanation.

I’m with you. People are more lazy than they are malicious.

Bethany Mandel: while protestors are burning down police vans and throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers

Well, are they throwing their Molotov cocktails from at least six feet away? Rioters and protestors pack the streets but houses of worship still closed due to social distancing. Wonderful.

This would be a great moment for them to search for a better place to live.  They are too small in number to effect changes at the top, as the deck is stacked against them and always will be in NYC.  It’s time for another Exodus.  Move . . .

Look on the bright side. When the grandparents of the rioters comprise the “second wave” no one will be able to blame it on the Jews. Although Sharpton probably will anyway.

They are welcome where I live but they have to take a basic economics test before they are allowed to vote.

Nothing can ever happen anywhere without some knucklehead blaming it on the Jews.
