A Memorable Start to Memorial Day Weekend 2020

It was another week ending with beauties and beast-mode from the White House.

President Trump took a road trip beyond a military port, going to a Ford plant where they converted to ventilator production. The President had a great visit, no thanks to the incompetent fascist Democrat governor of Michigan. He did his usual best with a string of forgotten men and women proudly talking about their part in keeping Ford tough:

First Lady Melania Trump gave another coolly elegant video message. This one is for students. We usually have students graduating or going on to the next phase of school this time of year. In this unusual year, we have things like drive-through and virtual graduations, following mass homeschooling, which could become a good thing.

The Friday White House press briefing was an amazing tag team MMA performance. We had President Trump open by declaring churches, synagogues, and mosques are essential. Places of worship are essential. He demanded they be shown proper respect and immediately opened across the country. He called out Democrat governors for disrespecting religion and houses of worship. He threatened them. If you think there is nothing behind that threat, you do not remember what President Eisenhower did to Democrat governors who defied the Constitution. Hint: 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles.”

Then Dr. Birx gave a stream of good news charts that hurt the left’s narrative. True, she still has the old nonsense about outdoor surfaces being a great danger. I’ll cut her a little break there, as her brain is still likely a bit fuzzy from weeks of sleep deprivation.

Finally, Kayleigh McEnany got the useful idiots of the White House press corps to beat themselves in the face for several minutes, attacking churches. As John Hinderaker notes about reactions to Trump’s call for churches to reopen:

Reporters who undoubtedly have no problem shopping at Costco, Target and Total Wine seem to view churches as unique centers of disease.

That was just the set-up. McEnany went in for the kill with a series of slides, after calling out the reporters for their complete failure to ask questions of the Obama administration and IC. She suggested maybe they were better visual learners and rolled a series of questions none of them have had the honesty or curiosity to ask. She said they had the weekend and she hoped to see some hands up when she asked about what answers they had gotten to any of these questions next week. Sweetly savage!

I haven’t watched the video, so please have patience with this dumb question: Did she really? If she did, that’s hilarious.

Yes she did, yes it is long overdue and delicious, it is in the last few minutes if you want to skip a long hollow yammer presenting odd and often useless data slices by Dr. Birx. (She does a good job of presenting a Covid Miracle narrative as states turn green over time on her map, but there was no clear presentation of what green vs orange vs red means in quantitative terms. Not that her immediate audience, the White House press corpse, could spell quantitative on a dare.

    McEnany owned the room.

‘What right does Trump have to tell the Governors that churches must be allowed to open?’ asks an agitated reporter. That’s a very good question, suitable for another weekend homework assignment. I’ll give them a small hint. It’s on a document whose first three words are, “We the people”. If you are Joe Biden, I’ll call it the first two words.

For what it’s worth, there are now no quotes on the headline on the WSJ site.

That is actually worth something. It suggests the company cares and sometimes responds positively to pressure from religious conservatives.

My dead-tree edition of the WSJ for May 23/24 headlined the story “President Calls for Reopening Places of Worship”.
