Day 91: COVID-19 #ReopenCalifornia

Short post today. I am headed to Sacramento for Operation Gridlock to show support for #ReopenCalifornia. I take COVID-19 seriously, but I cannot support extended government control over the activities of a free people. Emergency powers involve extraordinary action, but also an extraordinary moral constraint in leadership. In California, we do not have such leadership, and sadly too many of our federal representatives from this state range from merely reprehensible to incredibly evil.

For those who get seriously ill from COVID-19, it is a terrible experience and even those that survive may have long-lasting chronic conditions. That means it should be taken seriously and that the public needs to be educated about who is most likely to get seriously ill or die. Strategies that are voluntarily followed need to be developed to protect those who are most at risk. But general population control is not that strategy.

I trust my fellow Americans. I may be in the “at-risk” group, but I need more information than simply my age, being overweight, and having “coronary artery disease” for which I take statins and have no hypertension or active symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath. If I need to take special care — that is on me. Main Street need not close to extend my life. Wall Street is no substitute for Main Street. If Main Street stays closed eventually so, too, will Wall Street. We pensioners while not suffering today from a lost paycheck, will surely do so in the future if Main Street is not set back on its feet.

This must happen now.

Expect Gavin to get in line for the Big State Bailout coming down the pike. He wins in the population test, although he will lose the infection test. Big wins for NY and CA and big loss for everyone else paying the bill.

Best wishes on Operation Gridlock. I hope that there is enough political pressure in this one-party state to stop the madness of a statewide shutdown.

The problem I see is that once you can go back to work then you must go back to work or be fired.   Companies are not much for giving worker options about work environments.  At the beginning of this thing I know a few people that were in at risk populations that asked for thier employers to accommodate them and allow them to work from home (these jobs had that ability).  But management did not allow it and in those cases the people either worked and took the risk, quit or was fired.  I do not see this changing at this side of it, so older people currently working from home will have to go in and take that risk or lose their jobs.  Given that job market is not trashed most will take the risk and maybe die to feed their families then work from home and be safe.   I have no doubt that opening up will kill people.

If you are going to protest, at least use common sense.  Don’t do anything that that will give the garbage media ammunition  (Michigan protestors came off like they were blocking access to a hospital) and use proper hygiene and a face covering.

Michigan protesters actually came off that way or that’s the way the media chose to portray them? There is a difference.

To bolster your case: California-specific data. Total new confirmed cases each day for California (total), LA county, San Francisco area( San Mateo, San Francisco, and Santa Clara Counties), San Diego County, and Orange County. These are the most populous counties in the state. The horizontal scale is day-of-year (DoY). January 1 is DoY=1, today (April 20) is DoY=111.

Newsom is another D Governor who is drunk on power.  He might be as dumb as Gray Davis, which is saying something. California has become a feudal state with its 76 billionaires in the coastal blue strip and serfs everywhere else.

Note my phrasing – it could have been random morons, infiltrator lefties, or just the media being deceptive.  I saw the reaction, and people were buying the media narrative.  I’m just reminding people to watch out for media framing you as jerks.  The Virginia Gun Rally was a model on how to protest without giving the media anything to use to smear you.
