Delenda est.

When the crisis unleashed by the Corona 19 China virus ends, America and the rest of the world must never forget who is responsible for it. I’m not of course talking about God or nature or the people of good will of China, but of course the Chinese communist party.

It was their reckless cover-up, censoring of the good Chinese people who wanted to tell the truth about the virus, and then the murderous nature of the communist regime with its indifference to truth or human dignity that has caused the world-wide tragedy. I am so far lucky, I’ve only lost my job. Many others have are now sick. Including in my village. Others have lost their lives.

In a brilliant post by Axios today documents the initial stages of the virus to the full blown crisis it became, we learn the horrible truth about the Corona 19 terror. A study published in March indicated that if Chinese authorities had acted three weeks earlier than they did, the number of coronavirus cases could have been reduced by 95% and its geographic spread limited. Essentially almost all the deaths in Europe and America are down to the communist party’s criminal bungling of the situation.

I used the headline “delenda est” because it comes to mind in the last few minutes, as it does to anyone who thinks a lot about the classical age. Being a history teacher with a lot of spare time on my hands it has a lot lately. The great orator of the Roman Republic Cato the Elder ended every speech in the Senate regardless of the topic with the line “Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam“. It was a call for war with the Carthaginian kingdom which had repeatedly threatened Rome. Eventually, Cato got his way and war was declared.

I am in no way calling for violence against the Chinese communist regime. But as long as it rules China there will inevitably be another pandemic. It’s not a matter of if, it’s when. How many Americans and Europeans want to allow China to continue to play the dealer in our lives? If that means economic sanctions against China, so be it. Lives are worth more than money.

Yes, and we really need to discourage the habit of crowding animals that cross-carry viruses into populated markets.  The people of China have to follow the practice of factory farms.  Put all your bats and pangolins and ferrets and ducks and pigs and wombats into separate farms.  Process all the meat in giant factories into jerky and ship the jerky into the towns.  Soylent orange, Soylent yellow, Soylent blue,….

I wanted to shout out to Tucker Carlson in my thing, but couldn’t fit him in. God bless that man. He’s great.

    CNN is an expletive though.

The evil of the Chinese Communist Party is huge.  Their suppression of the press and medical professionals is nothing short of murderous.  It will be critical for us to not rely on China for our medical needs; they are not reliable partners.

I’m inclined to like this post, and to favor any criticism of the Chinese Communist Party.  But I am skeptical about this claim, as well.

I don’t doubt that the CCP could have taken steps that would have slowed the spread of the disease, but I very much doubt that any such measures could have been 100% effective.  Without 100% effectiveness, there was likely to be a major spread anyway, eventually.  Perhaps it would have occurred a month or two later, but it seems unlikely, to me, that it would have stopped the spread.

If this new virus is truly as virulent as feared, I question whether there is anything that anyone could have done to stop it.

I’m just waiting to see how long it takes for CNN, MSNBC or one of the other usual suspects to start parroting the Chinese claims that coronavirus was brought into their country by the U.S. military. So far they’ve limited their China defense to just trying to brand anyone who noted the virus originated in Wuhan as racist, but I’m sure the doubling down into Beijing-spawned anti-U.S. conspiracy theory swamps can’t be that far away, as long as there’s an election to try and win.

I agree.  This is where I depart from my normally libertarian economic leanings.  This outbreak has demonstrated to me (and I hope to all other Americans) that at least certain commodities are essential to our national security (including our national health).  We cannot ever again let ourselves be dependent on a totalitarian regime for those commodities.

China, of course, sold those supplies to Italy. Notice how that was not mentioned ?

When this thing is over, I want to see the numbers tallied up and compared to BHO and the 19 month Swine Flu epidemic.  Obama got mostly praise for his handling . . .

    Right you are Paddy.

The Chinese Military’s Wuhan BioWeapon’s lab had been messing around with inserting HIV into a coronavirus for over ten years. That is documented fact. They even published scientific papers on it. Back in 2007 and 2009.

The first known case in Wuhan, from what we are told by the Chinese,  was in mid-November. The BioWeapon Lab had to have recognized the virus (if it indeed came from the wild ) right away because it was remarkably almost identical to those they were playing with at the their own lab. Funny that! Furthermore, the evidence of the origination  now ( and it has for a while) points away from the Wuhan Seafood market but it was definitely in Wuhan and close to the Bioweapon Lab, so it is difficult to understand how the researchers at the Bioweapons lab did not know what it was   right away and it’s potential for devastation , even giving them the most generous benefit of the doubt.

The Chinese Government then likely knowing full well what it was delayed recognition and treatment of this Covid-19 for many, many weeks and even jailed the doctor  who first sounded the alarm about how  dangerous the virus was to  shut him up as well as anyone else who dared to sound the alarm. It was only after the infected started to grow exponentially and the general community of Wuhan  became so alarmed that the ChiCom government was forced to act.  This delay definitely allowed the disease to become the major nightmare it is now.

Stepping back from the details of the Coronavirus situation, one I think needs to look at the greater picture of what was happening between China and America.  Trump was clearly winning the trade war and had put China in a box that was going to decimate the Chinese economy.  He was even toying with them with his Phase I reduction of tariffs apparently just to get us through the election before he really put the screws to the ChiComs.

We need to appreciate the situation of the Chinese Leadership,  who had developed somewhat of a social compact with their  nation to the effect that the Chinese people were willing to accept greater dictatorial authoritarian control  in exchange for economic gains that would give them something close to a middle class life. Trump was threatening that compact with his trade war which would have wiped out many of the economic gains of the Chinese people.  The ChiCom Leadership I am sure is also well aware of what happens in the thousands of years of Chinese history when those in power lose what is called the “Mandate from Heaven”. They get overthrown in a most nasty way.

Now given those ideas, isn’t it a little more than coincidental that when China is faced with a dire economic threat posed by Trump’s trade war that a pandemic spring up right next door to the Chinese Military’s top BioWeapons lab?

Regardless of what CCP could have or should have done in November-December 2019, their conduct since (claiming racism, irresponsible conduct to OBOR agreement nations, deflecting blame to US, threatening to withhold contracted for medicines and components) makes a reckoning due.
