Soundtrack of the Apocalypse

I’ve been trying to think what the best soundtrack is for the quarantine.  Ohio Governor Dewine has locked down a large part of the state already, and last night I had Life During Wartime, by The Talking Heads, running through my, erm… head.  But other tracks seem apropos.  Amish Paradise, for instance:

And Feel Good, by Gorillaz is a good bit of advice.

Of course Melancholy Hill works too.

And the runs on the grocery stores have me asking if There Might be Coffee…

And The Veldt might be a good warning for all the time we’ll be spending online…

Phish works here too.

Maybe a mood lightener?

And of course…

What’s on your playlist?

A satirical music video from SNL, a few years back.

Lyrics, for you boomers what can’t understand rap.

A decade or so back my brother hosted a post-apocalyptic New Year’s Eve party. I attended in an old army haz-mat suit. My friend Tuttle was the prophet of doom, complete with his sign declaring “I told you so!” My brother, of course, sat on his throne above a treasury of canned goods.

My Cousin Stephen (who came dressed in a Michelangelo’s David smock, all ready to repopulate the world) provided the playlist. I don’t recall most of it, just the ones I specifically asked about. Y’see, my cousin Stephen is sort of odd; he follows a logic all his own. Some of the numbers on that playlist didn’t make obvious sense.

Dirty Harry by the Gorillaz because the video includes zombies, and I’m my Own Grandpa, because, as he explained, the paucity of survivors might put a serious crimp into your options for repopulating.

I don’t know how to make the video show up in the window like the smart people!

The trick is to break the link. You copy and paste your Youtube URL in on a new line, the editor is smart enough to recognize a url and automatically make it into a hyperlink. Right click the hyperlink, and click on the icon on the far right (has the tooltip “Remove link”). Then post your comment. If you left the hyperlink intact then you end up with a hyperlink in your final post. But if you break it, then the editor sees a youtube URL, and automatically embeds it.

Yeah, it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but what do you expect when the site can’t handle an apostrophe in your username?

(Oh, and sometimes videos are marked as unable to be embedded, in which case the hyperlink is the best you can do. This is uncommon.)

Actually, I have a Pandora station set up already as Galaxy News Radio. I set it up for background music for a Fallout role-playing campaign. Does a Pandora station count for one of those desert island album questions?

Maybe you’ll ask me to come back again
    And maybe I’ll say maybe.

I only listen to music while working and, well, at the moment I’m being pretty lazy, to tell you the truth.

There’s been a lot of these types of threads around. I been adding this:

    Mudhoney – “Touch Me I’m Sick” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm3UwFTBNys&list=RDjm3UwFTBNys&start_radio=1

    William Burroughs – “Apocalypse” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9unOeuZ7Y_E

PS: How the heck do you guys get the youtube videos embedded in your post? Is there an editor help page anywhere?

Has anybody yet suggested “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”?

Given the closing of brothels in some parts of the world, telling Roxanne not to put on her red light is also apt.

(Aside: It strikes me as peculiar just how much this sounds like it could be an early New Order track.)
