Coronavirus and Anti-Semitism
We have seen the Democrat Party pulled hard back into its bad old ways of Jew-hatred, now thinly dressed up as opposition to the government of Israel that has been repeatedly elected and supported by the majority of Jews in Israel. We have seen repeated demands, from Western Europe to American universities, for the economic destruction of the one nation in the world with a Jewish majority population. Now comes news of another advanced technology innovation from that most hated of states.

Israeli scientists: ‘In a few weeks, we will have coronavirus vaccine’
Israeli scientists are on the cusp of developing the first vaccine against the novel coronavirus, according to Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within a few weeks and available in 90 days, according to a release.

For the past four years, a team of MIGAL scientists has been developing a vaccine against infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), which causes a bronchial disease affecting poultry. The effectiveness of the vaccine has been proven in preclinical trials carried out at the Veterinary Institute
[…]
In preclinical trials, the team demonstrated that the oral vaccination induces high levels of specific anti-IBV antibodies, Katz said.
“Let’s call it pure luck,” he said. “We decided to choose coronavirus as a model for our system just as a proof of concept for our technology.”
But after scientists sequenced the DNA of the novel coronavirus causing the current worldwide outbreak, the MIGAL researchers examined it and found that the poultry coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the human one, and that it uses the same infection mechanism, which increases the likelihood of achieving an effective human vaccine in a very short period of time, Katz said.
If this proves out, do you suppose Bernie Sanders and Ilhan Omar will be happy to swallow the oral vaccine?

This is exciting news. Prime Minister Netanyahu mentioned this vaccine work in the interview he had last weekend with Mark Levin. :-)
A vaccine 90 days from now would be most welcome!
Happy? No. But they will probably take it but not tell anyone . . .
Cliff,
After Bernie’s little two minute undermining of the legitimacy of the Jewish State during the recent debate, I would have been happy if Bernie swallowed a few gallons of cement. Unfortunately, we don’t discriminate when it comes to helping the sick (nor do the Israelis as they take the sick and wounded coming across the Syrian border all the time). Perhaps a very short Jewish person should kick him in the shins.
What an idiot Sanders is.
Regards,
Jim
Remember, in the 17 years since SARS, nobody has managed to make a vaccine for any corona virus that wasn’t more deadly than the disease.
It sounds like a different approach, and one aimed at protecting poultry flocks, that they are trying to rapidly adapt to the latest mutation threatening humans. So, plenty of ifs and maybes ahead.
When asked about it, they won’t answer whether they are willing to take it, but rail on Israel about how convenient it was that they found the vaccine so quickly – like maybe had something to do with the virus and created the vaccine to make, per Bernie, “lots and lots of money.”
I can also hear Bernie yelling “In the U.S., we are NOT going to let Big Pharma profit off this international tragedy!”
Sad, if not so likely close to the truth. Of course, we only have word of a crash research project, based off a long term related project, so we will have to wait and see what news comes out over the next three or four months on this line of effort.
Imagine, if it pans out, the Israeli PM offering this free of charge to the people of Iran.
Remember that MASH episode when the white soldier wouldn’t take a blood transfusion from a black donor?
If ever Ilhan takes the Israeli vaccine and goes to bed, wouldn’t it be great if when she wakes up her nurse brings her a plate of shakshouka and speaks only in Yiddish? “Gut margen, Ilhan! Esn deyn frishtik!”
The vaccine, while welcome, will probably not be the primary form of therapy if this virus becomes a serious problem here. If it becomes a chronic recurring problem like flu, it might be useful. Since the disease is mild in most cases, the treatment of the severely affected will be more important. That will likely be Remdisivir. China is starting a major study of its effectiveness.

Then drug is a nucleotide analog that stops RNA synthesis and cured a single US victim in 24 hours. If this proves to be the effective treatment, the US has already ordered 90,000 doses.

Remdesivir, also known as GS-5734, is an antiviral drug, and a novel nucleotide analog prodrug. Remdesivir inhibits murine hepatitis virus (MHV) with an EC50 of 30 nM, and blocks SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV in HAE cells with EC50s of both 74 nM in HAE cells after treatment for 24 h. GS-5734 inhibits both epidemic and zoonotic coronaviruses. It was developed by Gilead Sciences as a treatment for filovirus infections such as Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus. Remdesivir share the same core structure with that of GS-441524. Remdesivir may consider as a prodrug of GS-441524.
It was being developed as an Ebola treatment.
Omar would probably blame the Israelis for secretly creating the coronavirus so the Jewish State could make money off of it (based on her “It’s all about the Benjamins” remark). But then she’d try to secretly get an inoculation, without letting her anti-Semitic fan base know.
So if you have the virus but support BDS, what do you do? Die in protest? Wait for Egypt to come up with a vaccine of their own?

You take the treatment, you live, and you continue to be a wretched, hateful hypocrite.
Yes, and: vaccination, if it becomes quickly available, will be important to breaking the chain of new infections and spread. It would be especially important for health workers.
