Winner Finally Declared in Iowa … Kinda

Four days after caucus results were due, the Iowa Democratic Party finally completed their initial vote count. According to these numbers, Mayor Pete Buttigieg eked out a win over Sen. Bernie Sanders, even though both candidates claimed the victory days ago. The margin was less than one-tenth of one percent.

Here’s the final tally of State Delegate Equivalents (SDE):

Candidate SDE
Buttigieg 564.012
Sanders 562.497
Warren 387.069
Biden 341.172
Klobuchar 264.204
Yang 22.223
Steyer 6.739
Bloomberg 0.21
Gabbard 0.114
Other 0.693
Uncommitted 3.957

Thursday morning, DNC head Tom Perez demanded a recanvassing of the numbers as candidates and various media outlets complained about irregular reporting, math errors, and other flaws in the data.

From the SDEs, the state party will assign delegates to each candidate.

    Jon,

Forgive me but I grew up with the Democrat machine. This smells to high heaven just like old times. How many signs were given that Bernie had to be stopped? This is a classic play by Dem machine politicians. You need time to stuff ballot boxes so you announce that the ballot boxes have been misplaced. A few hours later they are found again. This always happens in districts controlled by machine Dems.

The phone app that the DNC controlled was the perfect excuse. It gave them two whole days to fix this thing. I don’t believe for one minute that Buttiboy beat Bernie. The Dems never change their stripes they just talk and talk and talk.

    Regards,

    Jim

So how much did Bloomberg spend in Iowa? Whatever it was, it obviously wasn’t enough.

Buttigieg won the Electoral College delegate vote but Bernie won the popular vote.

The difference here is being a primary instead of a general election, the claims by Bernie and and other Democratic candidates of voter fraud will get a hearing from the media. The Times did another story Thursday on the vote count problems, and the Associated Press refuses to declare Buttigieg the winner based on its questions on the vote totals’ accuracy.

Tulsi is behind Bloomberg, who was not on the ballot.  Steyer, who outspends all the non-billionaire candidates combined, had a poor showing.

I would expect the Dems in 2024 to want to move another state ahead of Iowa, which is too white.  But, the small swing states most mostly white.  The best options are Arkansas and Missouri, which are not that swingy.

Delegitimize the election process.   It’s just another step in the progressive plans.  If the debacle in Iowa is repeated in one or two states, then the election is thrown into a confusion that would make counting chads seem quaint.  How would our republic respond?

I doubt that they use flip phones from 2005 – it would be hard to find a phone carrier that would offer service for a phone that old. (Of course you might be kidding.)

Rachel Maddow is now letting it be known that the reason for the whole snafu regarding how the precinct captains not being able to phone in their voting totals was because some Republican operatives had found out the central reporting phone number and then deliberately  tied up the phone lines, thereby destroying  the caucus.

I guess this is a step up: the the Dems now blame Republicans directly, without mentioning Russia.

Hopefully,   New Hampshire , Nevada, & South Carolina will be just as interesting.    Whoever wins a democratic primary,  or gets the nomination,  needs to immediately put out a public statement that they are definitely not suicidal.    However, it wouldn’t surprise me if an authentic,  fill in the blank or circle your choice, suicide note was found anyway.

It is part of the primary season. The parties are selecting their own, not the final office holder. I suppose we could call it party candidate selection vehicle season to be more accurate, but who is going to do that?
