Even Joe Manchin Can’t Resist the Left

As the Senators’ question time began last week, I offered a hopeful hypothetical, an imagined moment in which Senator Joe Manchin stood up for West Virginians and the party of FDR and JFK. I urged: “in the impeachment, it’s Joe Manchin’s time.” Sadly, we now know that even Sen. Joe Manchin no longer represents his state, whose citizens overwhelmingly support President Trump because he is actually for them.

Instead, Joe Manchin has called for a motion of censure, making a play to get four Republicans to join the Democrats against President Trump and his voters, a specious motion against normal presidential behavior of the sort these same senators condoned by inaction when it was President Obama. Sen. Manchin wrapped his surrender and service to the left in the false garment of “a moderate, centrist Democrat from West Virginia…” He showed no courage and spited the state that elected him more than once on promises of not being a tool of the bicoastal DNC governing elite.

If Sen. Lamar Alexander indulges Manchin’s gambit, it will be on behalf of big business and big agriculture in Tennessee, as they desperately fight to suppress American workers’ wages with an open spigot of cheap foreign labor and as their embrace of the radical secular social agenda is threatened by the first president since at least Reagan to actually deliver on the GOP social-conservative platform planks. Those planks are just supposed to keep the “Bible thumpers,” the rubes, in line at the ballot box, while substantial promise-keeping is only for defense contractor executives and big business.

Sen. Murkowski might join in to make it 51, assuming Sen. Collins is willing to go there as well, for the real reason of weakening the President who is threatening her one true sacrament: abortion on demand as the law of the land. See Sen. Murkowski’s fraudulent posturing in her vote on Justice Kavanaugh. This is the real game, the true purpose under the thin trappings of responsible governance.

Last March, “Through the Wormhole with the DNC” warned of how the Democratic Party in America was rapidly following the radical red/green (socialist/Islamist) path of the Labour Party in Britain. Now, even after Labour was crushed and the Conservative big business establishment was ousted by a massive wave election two months ago, the one Democrat senator elected by West Virginians is powerless or fearful to stand with them against the red/green faction. There will be no more chance of Democratic Party redemption until they are crushed at the  ballot box.

I watched what Manchin had to say today and I agree with your assessment. I won’t go along with any view that there was anything wrong with what President Trump asked of President Zelensky until I see a transparent investigation of all the characters I have seen linked to the preparation of the execution of the scenario pictured as wrong in the impeachment articles. This starts with Adam Schiff and his staff.

When the dust settles, if they aren’t careful they’ll be the Socialist Party. Maybe the Democrats and the Kristols et al can all form their own party and cry together.

I’m guessing Manchin no longer worries about a Republican challenger, but I don’t know much about politics in WVA.

Any vote for any Democrat is a vote for Nancy and Chuck. Especially if you live in AZ

It’s all about Schumer bucks. Not exactly sure how the money is controlled in the Democrat Senatorial Committee, but I am guessing Manchin is very much beholden.

I believe that Manchin is in a much tougher spot than Sinema from Arizona is in when it comes to a vote to acquit. Sinema has been a pleasant surprise in that she is not dependent upon pleasing Chuckie Schumer. Manchin has to hope that the DNC cannot find some Dem, for instance a coal miner union rep that is articulate, and doesn’t have a felony rap sheet to run against him. Sinema has wider appeal in Maricopa, and Pima County, and enough financial support, without having to depend on DNC cash to give her a second term in her next election.

The big problem in Arizona is that a Republican must be anointed by the McCain family. To make matters worse rural Arizona Republicans are divided by Sheriff Joe, and Kelli Ward, so divided that either side will sit on their hands and refuse to vote for the other in a state-wide election. Neither one is capable of carrying Maricopa, or Pima County.

    Manchin should have switched parties.

To the extent this is true, it is profoundly anti-American, deeply subversive of the Constitution. It must end. Perhaps it will take a seriously, visibility, wounded combat veteran of the current wars to call out and gut their illegitimate grip on the party. It should not have to come to that.

As to Sheriff Joe and Kelli, enough already of the losers, enough of the grifters.

Looking back on all of this I believe it would have been wiser for Governor Ducey and Martha McSally to agree that McSally would run for Governor after her two years in the Senate, and Ducey would run for Senator this time around.

When the governor did that was the time to make his move. I think he has erected his own prison.

I fully support a motion of censure. The Senate should not send the impeachment Managers back to the House without one. And one for Nancy Pelosi as well. And a warning not to waste any more of the Senate’s time or the People’s resources on trying to undo the last election or interfering in the next.

Courageous Manchin (Dec 2019) Based on the evidence I’ve seen,  the President’s conduct is worthy of censure.

Craven Manchin (Feb 2020) Based on the evidence I’ve seen, the President’s conduct is worthy of censure.

I’m not convinced that this indicates a cave by Manchin.  I don’t know the details, but this may well signal that he is going to vote to acquit.

The censure idea might just give cover for a few other Senators to vote to acquit, on both sides.  Imagine a deal whereby Manchin, Jones, Sinema, Romney, Collins, and Alexander agree to vote to acquit, but also vote to censure.  There might be other takers, especially among Democrats up for re-election in close states like Shaheen (RI), Warner (VA), Peters (MI), and Smith (MN).

This could mean 3-7 Democrats voting to acquit.

Censure is a Democrat last straw, any way to permanently stain the President and to drive a wedge between the Congressional Republicans and voters this November. Any Republican signing on is doing so to harm the President and spite his voters, in the cause of returning politics to the control of the old gang’s circle and patrons.

Andrew Jackson was censured. I just found that out.  Eric Holder was held in contempt, which seems for fitting for the second article. No one in public office seems to suffer any harm from even criminal behavior, so this is just for the players benefit, a game, a soap opera unworthy of wasting daytime soap tv time.

What a bunch of nonsense. At the end of the day, Trump will be President and run for re election with a good chance of winning, and the circus of impeachment will be never ending. The rest of us have work to do to keep the country working, pay taxes so these fools can be stupid on the national stage.

Maybe Trump will censure himself and Pelosi for added measure.
