‘Trump 2020,’ says Roy H.

I went for a walk through my small neighborhood today. I usually cut through Roy’s driveway. I saw he was here. A native of a parish of New Orleans, his “beach house” is his getaway. He’s survived major hurricanes in two states and does his own yard work … with a chain saw. I saw his garage lights on and his American-made SUV in the driveway. As I cut through, eyeballing his love of fruit trees with the Calamondin orange, heavy with fruit of which I’ve plucked many, I spotted his bumper stickers: “Trump 2020. Repeal Obama Care. Liberal Media – Stop Distorting the news.”

It’s hard to catch Roy. Although hard of hearing, he hollered at me a couple years ago, “Hey Linda! I’m not sure if I’ll be around much longer – my legs are giving out.” I could see the effects of diabetes. When I first met Roy on a walk, he offered me a beer and showed me pictures of his open heart surgery on his phone. I said, “yikes, Roy!” He said, “Hey, I’m still tickin’,” with a wry smile.

He always remembers my name. He told me he was an engineer and helped design a major waterway in Texas, that bordered with Mexico. He loves to tinker on his cool sports car in his garage, and yesterday he was standing straight as an arrow with the garage door up – evidence of time in the military, a defiant stance, with lots of gump. He’s pushing 90, but he’s still hopeful for Trump 2020.

In the meantime, I’ve been avoiding the news, waiting for this impeachment nightmare to end. Still, I saw some “brief” headlines. Trump unveils first stages of Middle East Peace Agreement – Trump signs China Trade Deal, Trump points new Human Trafficking Czar with Ivanka announcing it, while the Democrats blur the headlines with impeachment obsession. Just a few major, life-changing accomplishments by the Trump administration going unnoticed once again.

The exploitation of women and children have not escaped this president. It is a huge problem, and quite frankly sick that it still exists in 2020. In addition, his recent stand for religious freedom protected by law also escaped the Mainstream media. People of all faiths crowded the Oval Office.

Oh, and President Trump is working with the world community who has a serious Coronavirus outbreak on its hands…

In the meantime, the Democratic Party presidential nominees are knocking heads in Iowa, their Congressional leadership are knocking heads over their weak impeachment attempt that is destined to fail, and can we ask, have they not moved the country forward on any front, solving problems like homelessness, or job creation, or healthcare, or the war on terror, or mass immigration? Quite honestly, I’m not sure what exactly they are presenting as an incentive to vote Democrat, come November 2020.

With Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, as the latest horse to nose his way to the front of the pack, I wonder what Roy my neighbor is thinking. I’m going to ask him, but I think I know the answer. It will be colorful for sure, he minces no words, and I’ll let you know his response. Here’s to a raucous, challenging, and glorious 2020!

It’s really remarkable, isn’t it?  And they’re trying to convince Americans that they are living in a fascist dystopia where their lives are a living hell.  But I’m seeing more and more Trump 2020 stickers-I’ve seen them on cars in Washington DC and we just saw one on a fence on our way to JFK.  So perhaps there are more Roys than we think, even in the bellies of the beast.

It’s really difficult to understand what the Democrats are thinking. My sister, a lifelong Democrat activist, ended our last conversation, which had nothing to do with politics (purposefully, on my part) by exclaiming with utter despair, “I can’t believe my own brother supports Trump!”. I didn’t respond. There was nothing to be gained. I am always concerned that I live in a bubble and the world really is a CNN, NY Times kind of place.

Me too and then I come to my senses! What jolts me back is when I think about what life was like under the last administration and how much restoration has taken place under Trump – too many things to list?

Yes, I concur wholeheartedly. And then there is this. It has already happened before, and Trump was still Trump, only without all the amazing promises kept. It’s actually kind of silly to think he might not get re-elected. Worrying is just what we do.

Dear Roy! I love the man already! I hope he’s with us through the election so he can celebrate with the rest of us!

In 2016 Los Angeles, the only Trump bumper sticker I saw was on a Tesla.  Vampires and crosses, I guess.

I have five kids. Three are lefties, two lawyers and an artist.  My oldest daughter, a lawyer and FBI agent, was over for the Armistice (Veterans) Day weekend.  I walked through the family room as she was watching TV on Sunday morning. I don’t watch TV except college football. As I walked by she was grumbling, “Trump is such an incompetent !”  I stopped and replied, “Doesn’t 3.5% unemployment and a Dow Jones at 30,000 mean anything to you ?”  NO! She replied.

We don’t talk about politics although she told me in September 2016 that she would not vote for Hillary.  I took that as evidence of sanity but now I don’t know.

Wow – what an interesting family! I’m sure you’ll have to bite your tongue quite a bit this year! When I read your second sentence I thought you were talking about gifted, left-handed people like me……
