Say, Kids! What Time Is It?
If you said, “Howdy Doody Time!” you’re both wrong and old. Because the answer is “Question Time!”
Yes, it’s that time again when we open up the floor to the membership (you are a member, right?) and allow you to take charge, drive the bus, call the shots and generally grill our congenial hosts.
Drop your questions in the comments below and we’ll get to as many of them as we can!

I want all people who can express themselves within the CoC and with a modicum of intelligence, to feel welcome here. That includes Bill Kristol and many others. Why should only @Valiuth and @Zafar have all the fun of trolling the rest of us?
Like the devil I appear at the mention of my name (any one of them, for like my unholy master I have many, and you know but one of them). But @Zafar and I are jealous trolls and we will accept no others beside us, and frankly I am somewhat irate at having to share with him.
When will Ricochet organize an Ayahuasca retreat for it’s membership and can we perhaps get an episode of the flagship podcast or GLoP in which each interlocutor takes an entheogenic hallucinogen before discussing impeachment? CNN would get left in the shade. Well, it’s already in the shade, but it would be even more so.
Pick one, Gary.
It has been demonstrated that the Houston Astros cheated their way to a World Series championship in 2017 and the Boston Red Sox may have done the same in 2018. The Astros were punished and individuals suspended. Was the punishment ($5,000,000 fine, loss of draft picks), sufficient or should the punishment be more severe such as stripping them of their title? How did the Trump Presidency make such cheating possible?
Thanks. Love the podcasts.
One? One? Those weren’t the rules! Seriously, I would invite them to answer any one of these that they would like, and not attribute those questions to me as in “Another member asked, … “
If I had only one question, it would be “If you could go back in time to give yourself advice when you were younger, what advice would you give to your younger self, and how old would you be at that time?”
There has been some talk about various counties of Virginia seceding and joining West Virginia. Supposing the practicalities of this could be worked out, would this be a good idea? How would it affect the electoral makeup of each state?
Has the definition of conservatism changed?
Corollaries: Did it change during William F. Buckley’s tenure at National Review? Did it change during Reagan’s administration? Has Trump changed it? Have aspects of conservatism changed for the better or the worse?
Sadly, the R> Podcast guys are not sports fans (Peter is a little, but not to this level of detail). That said, this is a great question for the Law Talk with Epstein & Yoo crew, who are sports fans and have some experience adjudicating proper penalties. We will be doing a Question Time show in February and you should absolutely submit this question to them.
Excellent questions all. I can be of some assistance off-line. I’m in Germany too and am acquainted through past military service with one of the “good guys” in that party.
Serious question:
Do you think Rich Lowry made a mistake with its “Against Trump” issue (why or why not), and what do you think will be the future of National Review?
For Peter Robinson: Were/are you working on a book about the Cold War? If so, what is the angle and when might you be ready for press?
Why is there anything rather than nothing?
This may sound like a joke, but I’m actually interested in hearing an answer from the founders. This is the supreme question everyone should grapple with. I’ve asked many people the question over the years. My wife posed the question to her high school debate team. It’s the proper response to Isaiah: “Come now, let us reason together.” (Isaiah: 1:18) The answer, it seems to me, is at the heart of what a person believes in, from how to raise our children to our political and moral views.
Do you think the way our parties pick candidates is broken, and if so, how would you fix or replace it?
Thank you, I will throw it to the LawTalk crew next month. I honestly thought Peter, Rob and James would say something like, ummmmmmm that’s a good question.
May I substitute a variation on Brian Watt’s question: are conservatism and liberalism immutable philosophies or are they always in flux, with the definition of what is a conservative position or liberal position being relative to contemporary times?
Thank you. (I think.) I feel more welcome already.
Ricochet membership sky rockets giving you each enough cash to afford one trip in a time machine – which historical moment do you travel to to witness and why?
James, what did you think of the Star Trek: Picard premier?
James, what did you think of the Star Trek: Picard premier?
James,… (repeat however many times is necessary to overcome Peter and Rob’s distaste for the topic)?
Thoughtful Sci-fi criticism from someone who appreciates Gene Roddenberry’s creation without sharing his philosophy is hard to come by and well, it’s the content I’m paying for.
“Quack quack.”
Come on, you’re tempted too o ptb, aren’t you?
