New Year–Same Old Celebration

We like to wallow in the fact that we don’t live in a freezing, snow-covered environment, like where we grew up. Since our marriage in 1974, we’ve spent a few years in a snowy climate, but mostly, we’ve lived in coastal Southern California, or here in the Mojave Desert. We spent a decade in Southern Maryland, by the Chesapeake Bay, but it hardly ever snowed there, either. Riding the motorcycle year round has never gotten old. We no longer go out on New Year’s Eve, but we always go for a ride on New Year’s Day, just to take this photo!

Happy 2020 everyone! It’s going to be another great year–as long as you keep your point of view in a happy place!

Cow Girl: Since our marriage in 1974, we’ve spent a few years in a snowy climate, but mostly, we’ve lived in coastal Southern California, or here in the Mojave Desert.

It was pretty snowy in the high desert last Thursday and Friday. I was out there over the weekend — the snow was mostly gone by Saturday, but I had Syracuse flashbacks walking the streets of Tehachapi up in the higher elevations while going to lunch on Saturday, with all the snow and slush on the ground. Definitely not the normal climate for a Southern California visit.

I read about all that crazy weather! We were up in Northern Utah with the grandchildren where snow is expected and demanded at Christmas. But, the high desert isn’t guaranteed to stay warm–winter is cold there.

Happy New Year @cowgirl! We stayed in town for the new year – for the past five years we’ve celebrated with my brother and sisters in Southern Utah.

They’ve been sharing with me pictures of rare snow … as have I. Been a few year since we got snow in the foothills of the San Gabriels, but this has been one cold year.

JY is scheduled to get a new knee on Friday; another in March. If all goes as planned, there will be a pic of he and I on a motorcycle by 2021.

Quote from JY: Being tall is awesome. Until you’re 60 … then it sucks.

Quote from me: Being short always kinda sucks. You can’t reach anything and it’s an effort to look good in anything. That said, I’m realizing there’s less to go wrong.

I grew up in the cold midwest and have lived in the high desert since ’90. We had snow on Thanksgiving that stuck around for about a day and a half, but that was the first snow on the ground in this valley in 8 years.

I have a lovely view of Owens Peak from my front door. If I want to play in the snow (yeah, right) I can drive an hour and be in it. That’s about as close as I like it!
