This is an update of a post I wrote exactly three years ago, when the answer to the question posed in the title was a mere “42.” I hope my long-time friends will forgive my shortcut here, and that my new friends will find it interesting. I celebrate the memories of all kinds that have formed our Ricochet lives, from the ageless @midge (even older than I am) and infants like
This refreshed institutional memory, if we may consider Ricochet now an institution, is part of our monthly theme series. December’s theme is “Memories.” Sign up soon, before the days are all taken!
Fascinating.
Always interesting to see how sites change over time.
I had been lurking here for a little bit before joining on March 31, 2011. The announcement that the Main podcast would be disappearing behind the paywall was the final push. (That didn’t last long.)
I delayed all of a week, almost, before writing a comment, in defense of Dennis Rodman being named to the NBA Hall of Fame, of all things. Contributor Ursula Hennessey not only said something nice about my post, she welcomed me to the site. “By the way, welcome to Ricochet, Percival! Come often and stay long.”
So now you know who’s to blame.
She, thanks for working so hard on your post.
I usually don’t read posts as long as yours, but I read yours — in its entirety.
I had no idea you were such an old-timer — and that you were once a Ricochet poobah.
How many posts have you written in those nine years?
Thanks, Kent. My profile says I’ve written 327 posts. I don’t keep track very well, but I know there are a few that don’t show up on the list. And that’s a bit deceptive anyway, because it took me six-and-a-half years to get to #100, which was posted on June 12, 2017. So, 227+ in the two-and-a-half years since then.
Ricochet infrastructure on the day I joined up:
I was a latecomer in 2014 and did my share of lurking for a while. It’s fun to see how things began, how much and how little has changed. So glad you’re here!
What a great post, as usual, @she. This part made me laugh out loud!
I joined in August of 2010. Have never written a post and didn’t make a comment until probably 3 or 4 years later. I come to Ricochet each day though and am happy to be part of it. I would imagine there are many more like me out there.
Ricochet infrastructure today:
Busy System Admin was lazy.
We wish there were more. A lot more. But we’re very glad you and everyone else took a shot on us and more importantly are still here. Thank you.
And thanks @she for this wonderful post.
