Chick-Fil-A Caves
This is shocking and depressing news. Chick-Fil-A, which has long been on the receiving end of vitriol and harrasment from the LBGT Mob for operating their business based on the Christian beliefs of owner Dan Cathy (including opposition to same-sex marriage) just announced their surrender to the Mob. Specifically, Chick-Fil-A will no longer donate to the Salvation Army, the Paul Anderson Youth Home, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Over the years, Chick-Fil-A has donated millions of dollars to these and other charities. What these three charities that have been written out of Chick-Fil-A’s charitable giving have in common is that each is overtly Christian in their outlook and behavior and have been victims of the same harrasment by the LBGT Mob as Chick-Fil-A.
Chick-Fil-A is pretty transparent in why they are making this move. They are hopeful this move will prevent the type of opposition to the opening of new restaurants in progressive environs such as that of the San Antonio City Council banning of a proposed Chick-Fil-A at the local airport earlier this year. Chick-Fil-A President and CEO Tim Tassopoulos stated “There’s no question we know that, as we go into new markets, we need to be clear who we are. When there is a tension we want to be sure we’re being clear. We think this is going to be helpful. It’s just the right thing to do: be clear, caring and supportive and do it in the community.” A Chick-Fil-A spokesman stated that the chain will focus it’s charitable donations on “education, homeless, and hunger.” If so, they’ll have a hard time finding organizations that have done as much good in these areas as has the Salvation Army for over 150 years.
I don’t think this is going to work out the way Chick-Fil-A hopes it will. Chick-Fil-A has now shown that it will cave to the totalitarian LBGT Mob. With this victory in hand, the Mob will continue to push for complete capitulation to the LBGT agenda with the same ferocity they have up to this point, while conservatives (especially social conservatives) will view this as a betrayal and, if so, will frequent Chick-Fil-A a little less often. We shall see.

They are people with eyes and ears. This is just them recognizing the truth that Christianity is doomed in the public sphere and it is best to separate yourself from it if you want to thrive. Their Christian fan base may buy their food but that matters little as long as the Left can keep them from building stores and selling that food or sueing them out of any profit when they do. You can’t really blame them for trying to get along and make a living.
So now we will hold a gun to their head forcing them to give to Salvation Army? Shouldn’t they be able to change whom they donate to, or if they donate to anyone at all?
Snopes will be conflicted…since they want the story to be true and dissing would be a blow to their general Leftist bias.
Because current definition of anti LGBT+ is not celebrating and promoting LGBT+ lifestyle and agendas.
I don’t think much of their food and as a family we went mainly to support their mission. Now they have abandoned their mission I see no reason to go out of my way to support them.
I see chick fil-a as a casualty. I’m not going to abandon them. They have been relentlessly attacked and remain a principled delicious chicken sandwich shop.
I’m dismayed at the fickle support they’re getting.
I also remember when a lot of Christians objected to Salvation Army for being a nonstandard religion.
The public can really only vote with their pocketbooks as far as who Chick-fil-A decides it’s in their best interest to donate to, and who they need to avoid.
How the company’s franchise owners view this may be another story entirely. For about the past 15 or so years, getting a Chick-fil-A franchise has pretty much been seen as a license to print money because of the hyper-loyal fan base, and the cost of those franchises has risen accordingly. If the per-store sales suddenly go from being 60-70 percent higher than your average McDonald’s or Wendy’s to being roughly on par with them, they’re not going to be happy campers willing to go along so chicken sandwiches can now be sold in London.
Maybe. But I know people who hate the company because they’ve been told to, but that’s not why they don’t eat there. They don’t eat fast food, and, true to form, are quite proud of themselves for that. Of course you can go to urban markets and pick up customers. They’re just not going to be the kinds of progressives who have the time and money to boycott everything that they don’t agree with.
The best bet would be to open a store across the street from virtually every store. The parking lots are always full to the brim – even through people know they can move a lot faster than McDonald’s can move a five-car line, I bet they lose a lot of business because it looks daunting.
Nope.
GLAAD’s response today shows they still want their pound of poultry flesh:
Of course, this isn’t so much about what GLAAD thinks as it is a public relations war between GLAAD, other organizations like them and Chick-fil-A to sway the opinions of what building owners, municipal authorities and regular people in places like Toronto, London and elsewhere think. GLAAD wants total capitulation to their agenda, which you’d assume is only worth it for Chick-fil-A if they’ve decided to be a multinational company, and like others, care more about the larger market overseas than they do about their base customers in the U.S. (KFC is vastly more popular in Japan than it is in America, and of course a number of companies have made catering to Chinese demands more important than satisfying U.S. customers).
I am not ticked off at CFA because I don’t think they have a right to give to whomever they wish, I am ticked because they have thrown major shade on wonderful organizations that need boosting and praise, not disrespect. The publicity from this will hurt the Salvation Army and FCA. High School administrators across the country will now feel pressure to ban FCA in their schools. FCA has brought many athletes to Christ. Santa Clauses with bells at Christmas will be hissed at and one will have to sneak money into their pot only when others are not looking. I bet the Santa Clause bell ringers will be protested and picketed- perhaps assaulted.
For that reason, I would feel dirty to ever support CFA again. A pox on them. It is privately owned and highly profitable. They have harmed wonderful service organizations just so they could add more billions to their account and make them feel more welcome in the billionaire’s bubble. This was a despicable move.
They will lose my business. I can eat anywhere. Wendy’s makes a nice spicy chicken sandwich that isn’t garnished with betrayal.
I rather like boneless chicken, spineless chicken–not so much.
@metalheaddoc:
This particular bit of rhetorical flourish deserves a special call-out. Nicely done, MHD.
Thank you kindly!
I suggest a fast from Chick-fil-a from now until Christmas, a sort of Advent fast. You know the usual bill for a trip, so just put those dollars in a virtual or physical kettle that very day. If your car’s steering develops a problem near Chick-fil-A, just stop in the parking lot and make the donation before safely driving away. Please don’t demonstrate in the drive through lane.
Chick-Fil-A’s announcement reinforces the false narrative that the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes are “anti-LGBT” groups. Chick-Fil-A must have understood that would be the interpretation, and yet Chick-Fil-A did not say anything in its announcement to counter that false narrative.
So, Chick-Fil-A is willing to harm people (Salvation Army and the people served by the Salvation Army, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the students served by FCA) in exchange for short term financial gains. That willingness to hurt people for momentary gain is completely counter to the principles that made the company successful in the first place, and is a sign that cultural rot has already taken root within Chick-Fil-A. Once cultural rot takes root in the corporation, the company will soon lose its unique characteristics that people love today, and Chick-Fil-A will become just another generic purveyor of chicken sandwiches.
Yeah, the Chick-Fil-A statement is a very muddled mess that is anything but clear. Another indication the company is already rotting from within, and will in a relatively short time lose the internal culture that translates into the exceptional service we see and enjoy today. Likely coming soon to a Chick-Fil-A near you – just another fast food chicken sandwich shoved at you with no enthusiasm or joy.
Yes, the Salvation Army does not discriminate. The issue for the activists isn’t the services offered by these groups but Christianity itself.
I know I don’t have time to research the ideological positions of every restaurant that I might want to eat at. Even if a restaurant donates to charity, how many pennies per lunch are they donating, anyway?
I think the Salvation Army is a noble organization, so I have an unpopular idea. How about we crack open our own wallets and make donations to the Salvation Army instead of demanding that fast-food restaurants do it?
I prefer a restaurant that doesn’t donate. I want my food to be cheaper, I couldn’t care less about their donations.
I wouldn’t necessarily characterize this as caving as there was a more expedient time than now to make this decision. They are probably doing what they think is best for customer experience and is going to maximize long term value. It’s not a total loss either. There are no doubt many thoughtful Chick-Fil-A customers that are going to pick up the slack by making individual contributions to these organizations.
Well, Chik-fil-A’s moral collapse isn’t a surprise to everyone. From LifeSiteNews:
Read the whole thing. And note the deliberate pandering to LGBT+ interests in Toronto, confirmed by government filings made by Chik-fil-A.
On first reading, I saw that as “Rodney B. Dullard.”
