Proud Papa Presents: My Rosie
As some of you know, I’m a proud father of four. I have two boys (24 and 17) and two girls (15 and 10). Thus far, I’ve generally bragged on my oldest — Michael — because, having had more time on the planet, he’s accomplished more thus far. Michael is a sergeant in the Marine Reserves on active deployment in Latin America.
Now, if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to brag on my youngest, Rosie. Rosie and her older sister are in a terrific performing group in Tucson called Kids Unlimited and they just had their fall show. Rosie had her first big-show solo, singing “When Will My Life Begin?” which is the opening song to the Disney movie Tangled. (Based on Rapunzel, for those of you who haven’t seen it.)
Anyway, here’s the video from my wife’s Facebook page. It’s less than two minutes (and, unfortunately, starts a few seconds into the song). So — Proud Papa presents, my 10-year-old Rosie:
Rosie singing Tangled – "When Will My Life Begin"

Rosie is quite amazing in other ways, as well. She is a voracious reader and has the type of personality that makes everyone want her to be their best friend. She is homeschooled, for which 99.9 percent of the credit goes to my wife.

Yes, a perfectly normal, cute, talented little kid, in contrast to the one depicted in the post just underneath yours. Congrats, you and wife deserve the credit!
I was going to point out that you left out the link, but maybe it doesn’t show up in my browser because I’ve blocked Facebook on my computer.
If you want to go to the Facebook page, here is a link.
I’ll do it some time when I’m at another computer where Facebook is not blocked. In any case, I enjoy hearing about your children.
To me, reading is the most important skill a child can develop. The fact she loves to read makes it even more so.
Okay, potty training ranks up there too . . .
Rosie’s desire to read has been interesting to me, because it is so much more pronounced than was the case for my older three kids. I don’t think that we did anything different with her. If anything, she probably got a bit less parental attention than the others, purely because my wife and I were pretty seriously outnumbered by the time Rosie arrived. She did have the benefit of attention from her older brothers and sister, of course.
It’s just another example of the extraordinary uniqueness of each individual.
If she has not yet had professional voice lessons, consider getting her some. She has considerable talent.
Wow! Cutie pie! And also one of those people who can somehow own a stage…Go Rosie!
Thank you, Proud Papa!
What a great kid, full of talent and personality! Congrats to you and your wife. No wonder you’re so proud!
She’s obviously got plenty of personality. It’s very difficult to perform solo like that. She had a lot to deal with, all the gestures and motion while singing …at 10! Performing is one of the most demanding things a person can do.
I have a daughter just starting out in show biz (21 now) has been dancing since she was 4 and very seriously, so I know what being a proud papa is like! Seeing your child perform well and keep progressing is something special.
And like your son in the Marines, it doesn’t stop!
I have another weekend update on the amazing Rosie.
I took Rosie with me to a thanksgiving get-together with one of my bible study groups. There were about 40 adults present, and I was the youngest of them (I’m 51). One of the ladies passed out a 9-question, multiple-choice Thanksgiving quiz, with questions ranging from which President made Thanksgiving a permanent national holiday, to how many feathers there are on a turkey, to how high a cranberry has to bounce before it is ready for harvest. There was a small prize (candy, it turned out).
Only one person got all 9 questions correct. Rosie.
Nice!
