Wolf Blitzer Tells Kellyanne Conway Her Marriage ‘Has Issues’

One of Ricochet’s finest has encouraged us to be more concise. No problemo. My title is my article. Almost. I just can’t conform myself instantly to these new disciplines. I need some time to adjust. I’ll try to keep it short, though:

  1. Mark Steyn said, on Tucker’s show tonight, that Kellyanne Conway shoved Wolf Blitzer’s ploy down his throat.
  2. She said that Blitzer had embarrassed himself (about five seconds earlier…I wish I, and other American liberals, were that quick on our feet) by asserting on national TV that she, Kellyanne and her husband had marital problems, but that he didn’t want to talk about these presumed problems on national TV.
  3. Kellyanne brought the obvious contradiction to Blitzer’s attention, leaving him desperately dodging and trying to change the subject. (Wolf’s script presumably read, “Kellyanne is flustered by your personal attack, and starts weeping like any fragile woman would who is attacked by a famous, powerful Man like you, Wolf…”

Like Mark Steyn, I remarked–to the Boat Wife–on what Kellyanne did in real time to Blitzer, and by association to CNN and the establishment propaganda machine, in anatomical terms.

But what Kellyanne did to Wolf Blitzer on national TV, in my own anatomical metaphor, was the mirror image of Mark Steyn’s, in terms of the gastrointestinal tract.

Tough? Yes. Brittle? I don’t see it .

Maybe I used the wrong word. I’ve admired her defense of Trump since the campaign but have noticed a rigidity in her during the last year or so that is unbecoming. Just my opinion.

    Ahhh, I get it.

Maybe her constant dealings with a negative press has forced her to harden her demeanor, especially when it has been turned toward her personal life.

I think it’s clear her success in her position has helped Trump, the MSM has no problem trying to destroy her marriage.

And her hubby ain’t helping her either . . .

I remember well the Carville/Matlin days when their relationship provided much fodder for the talking heads in the press. Tim Russert used to have them on Meet the Press all the time, so I don’t think there is anything nefarious about Blitzer’s curiosity since the state of the Conway marriage is the talk of DC.  Matlin and Carville were able to weather their personal press with humor, something KellyAnne doesn’t appear to have, or it could be that her marriage truly is in serious jeopardy leaving her unable to laugh off marriage references.

Even when Mary and James were criticizing each other’s clients, there wasn’t the meanness in their barbs there’s been with George and his remarks towards Kellyanne and her main client — it’s the difference between needling and knifing your spouse.

These rubes are so blissfully self unaware that they can announce themselves as patent hypocrites in one sentence such as Blitzer’s here. I like this rhetorical play (“but I would rather not accuse the President | Speaker | Pope publicly of diddling small children because that would be awkward”) for its humorous play, but when the speaker is as clueless as Blitzer it can be awesomely delicious.

As painful and stupid as it has been, the Trump presidency continues to bring us these little bits of schadenfreude.

    Well said.

Might as well throw this into the thread — apparently George Conway doesn’t feel constrained to limit his sniping to his wife over her support of Trump. He’ll snipe at any woman in the D.C. political world who does it. Your mileage may vary on whether that broad-based contempt is a good thing or not….

I think the Wolf was not playing nice.  If anyone had questioned Carville about his marriage, he would have ripped his head off.

    Heck, Mary probably would too.

On the other hand, she comes off as a tough and brittle woman. Maybe they stay together for the sake of the children, but surely they have separate bedrooms

I sure don’t understand it.  My impression is that he is less successful in his career. Hers has been successful before Trump came along.  He seems jealous to me.  Also a complete jerk.

This reminds me of a line in “Casablanca” when the Major Strasser mentions “blundering Americans.”  Captain Renault retorts, “I was with them when they blundered into Berlin.”

A 28,000 Dow Jones and 3% unemployment leads me to request more “stupid.”

I get hating your spouse’s boss. But once you have conveyed your concerns to your spouse privately and they say they still want to work for them, why would you go public?! If you objection is because you think it is harming your spouse but you haven’t persuaded your spouse that this is true, then what factors would push you to do acts calculated to get your spouse fired?

There has got to be a story in this but I am having trouble seeing it as favorable to George Conway. Kellyanne sticking with her man for the time being given their children makes sense to me, even if difficult.

If true, that’s an amazing screenwriting gaffe. Allied forces never entered Germany after WWI. This led to the German people believing they hadn’t really been defeated, but just “stabbed in the  back” by an international conspiracy, leading to Hitler and WWII.

Agreed.  The Epstein twins were great at sharp dialog but might have lacked a bit of history.
