This is the best spent hour I have had in a long time. Peter Robinson is, perhaps, one of the great individuals of our time. His humility, erudition, religiosity, and essential wisdom make him someone that I could listen to for hours. He is someone I would truly love to sit down and have a quiet evening of conversation with that went on forever.
In the final moments of this interview he talks about the area he grew up in, its values, its diversity, and its essential Americanism. It is a different place than I grew up in, but it was so familiar to me from my own early years. I am, perhaps, 20 years his senior, but our origins, the values we were taught, and the desire to see them return run very deeply in both of us.
As I have commented in the past, I have a good deal of trouble watching Ben’s regular show. I much prefer him in his role as interviewer in conversation with other great minds. He is, unquestionably, a brilliant young man, but at times he needs to be diluted a bit in order for his real brilliance to shine. These Sunday Specials are among the best thing offered by The Daily Wire. I would also recommend their Backstage shows which are also wonderful conversations.
Agreed. He should be a household name among conservatives. In fact, if party big-wigs and media moguls had called that, maybe we wouldn’t have to be using Robinson’s “compared to what?” to feel okay about voting for Donald Trump.
If you go to the Daily Wire’s YouTube page the comments are fantastic.
“Peter Robinson is the best long-form interviewer in conservative politics”
“For young people who are new to politics go and watch the Hoover Institute w/ Peter Robinson – you will learn more there than any of the so-called experts in history/politics you see on TV.”
“Excellent guest! Peter Robinson is an inspiration!”
But the absolute best one? “This guy looks like James Cameron’s Conservative bad ass older brother.”
There’s hope for this world yet!
I can’t wait to listen on my Monday morning commute tomorrow, with EconTalk on the return. I agree that Ben’s Sunday Specials have been excellent, and include a wide range of differing points of view. Good to see others appreciating our Mr. Robinson!
A fantastic conversation and Ben did a great job capturing Peter’s personality and wit. Just don’t understand why they shot it in a french fry warmer.
Pita fries.
Get it?
Just finished listening to the interview this morning. Great interview Peter… you have proven that you are both an outstanding interviewer and an engaging guest!
You are correct to, WE WON the cold war. It is a pity that the first George Bush didn’t understand how to negotiate the Cold Peace.
I enjoy listening to Ben’s daily podcast, I just can’t watch it! His impish appearance and affectations throw me off so much I can’t focus on what he is saying so I only listen. LOL
This was great and I think it’s the first time I’ve seen Peter Robinson on the other side of the interview!
I’ve wandered down so many intellectual side-roads by listening to Uncommon Knowledge. It’s how I discovered Stephen Kotkin’s Stalin series, the Law Talk podcast, Andrew Robert’s Churchill bio and of course, Ricochet. It’s such a great series and I do my best to share it with as many of my peers as possible.
Excellent discussion. As others have noted, Mr. Robinson does well whichever side of the interview he is on.
It’s about time Robinson was on the receiving end of an Internet interview!
;-)
I can’t get into any podcast that’s longer than 20 minutes. That’s how long it takes me to get to work, and the daily commute is when I listen to podcasts.
This is a wonderful format for @PeterRobinson to present his stories and ideas.
‘Way to shine!
You need to use 1.5X speed, then you can enjoy 30 minute podcasts. If you listen to the same podcast there and back 60 minutes would be your limit.
A few years ago, we took a shot and let an obscure game show host interview Peter on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the “tear down this wall” speech. The kid (I think his name was….Sajak? Can’t remember now…) did pretty well:
I just re-upped (after a few years) solely to let Peter know what an extraordinary interview/discussion that was.
Excellent! Glad to have you back. While you’re here, come hang out.
So, I don’t really disagree with the comment but I that isn’t my quote you’re responding to.
You are a great American. Thanks!
