Nature’s Power

We have had some serious rainfall here in the Seattle area the past few days.  This often brings flooding to our rivers, and the Snoqualmie River is no exception.  Here is some video of Snoqualmie Falls.  You cannot deny Nature’s Power, or her Beauty.

At Niagara Falls, I found I got a more thrilling sense of the power of water from the United States side than from the Canadian side. The view from the Canadian side has the impressive “horseshoe falls” view, but it’s at a distance. From the United States side you can get very near the edge of the river as it flows over the falls and really get a sense of the volume and power of the water as it does so.

I used to stop by Snoqualmie Falls often when I lived in WA. In the summer it splits into two small streams, but when the water is high like that it is really impressive. One thing you don’t get from that video is just how loud it is with that much water crashing down after a 250 foot drop.

I apologize for the constant whine-that is the helicopter.  I wish they had opened the doors so you could hear the falls instead.

This is why it’s hard to leave these West Coast places. The beauty and power of nature is so great one tries to overlook the crazy politics. Thanks for this.

Wow – that is intense! I wouldn’t want to be living in that house or hotel on the edge of that waterfall – !

This is what it looked like upstream downstream (Seattle Times online: A group of pre-schoolers from Seattle, on a field trip to a pumpkin patch at Remlinger Farms in Carnation, were stopped short of their destination by a flooded Snoqualmie River on Northeast Tolt Hill Road near West River Road in Carnation on Tuesday morning. (Mike Siegel / The Seattle Times).

EDIT: corrected after checking the map.
