ACF #33: Eyes Wide Shut

Friends, here’s our first Kubrick conversation–his last movie, Eyes Wide Shut, about the erotic temptations Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, I mean their characters, have to withstand at the turn of the millennium and how the spirit of Christmas might be replaced by a shocking and elusive conspiracy of elite perverts who dedicate themselves to restoring paganism!

You can read an essay I wrote on the elite madness the movie prophesied, if we look at the Jeffrey Epstein case… and you can follow Tyler Malone here on Twitter!

I always thought “Meh” about anything Kubrick, since it always reminds me of Roger Ebert getting together with a few other pompous lefties talking about Impordant Fillums while the rest of us just wanted to watch entertaining movies.  I’ll listen here to see what rational people think, but….

Titus, when are you going to do a show on Billy Wilder and his later stuff like Avanti,  which was both entertaining and has the best ever depiction of a self-important bureaucrat who stamps papers?

I love Wilder–I’d do a whole series on him. But I’d need to be popular & paid handsomely to do what I will, & I’m not there yet.

Meanwhile, I can rarely indulge my love of the great man who came to America & soon learned to be as American as anyone, but also had his strange European view!
