Get Ready for Secretary of State John Kerry
At least one member of the governing class has reaped the consequences of the Benghazi debacle. This just across the transom from Politico:
Published in GeneralUnited Nations Ambassador Susan Rice told NBC News Thursday that she is withdrawing her name from consideration to be appointed Secretary of State by President Barack Obama, according to the network.
“If nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly – to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities,” Rice wrote in a letter to the president, posted on NBC’s website. “That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country…Therefore, I respectfully request that you no longer consider my candidacy at this time.”
Is this the equivalent of tanned, rested , and ready ?
I’m sure not one of his suitability issues will reappear during confirmation.
So right. Hillary Clinton has been given a pass for four years straight. We know what to expect; here we go again.
Will the Rs eviscerate him during confirmation hearings?
Is there anyone who honestly views this as “a loss for the country”, instead of just a minor political note? I have a hard time believing we are missing out on some fantastic diplomatic talent by not having Susan Rice as SecState.
Now John Kerry… oy.
Get ready for the return of Senator Scott Brown?
The bus is going to need new tires and shocks soon.
I think the administration hopes this will effectively end interest in the Benghazi-gate investigation. The requisite sacrifice has been made. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
Well at least somebody in this administration (not Obama or Hillary) will pay a slight price/inconvenience for this Bengahzi mess besides those four Americans.
Its something, I guess.
The human toothache settles into the molars of the body politic.
Better Secretary of State than Secretary of Defense.
We can stand a screamingly incompetent Secretary of State beter than we can stand a screamingly incompetent Secretary of Defense (although look for someone like Bernie Sanders or Dennis Kucinich to get the nod).

The latest, seemingly well-placed, chatter has Chuck Hagel as the leading contender to succeed Leon Panetta at the Pentagon.
Remember John Tower? George H.W. Bush nominated him for Sec. Def. and he got shot down by his fellow Senators. Time for the Democrats to get a healthy dose of their own medicine. Kerry can be savaged even if he gets the votes.
Well, I haven’t heard this discussed but here’s what I think has happened.
It has been widely rumored that John Kerry wants to be SOS. President Obama, however, had put Rice up for the position.
The Senate is more of an exclusive Club as opposed to a partisan body. Since Senator Kerry wants the job, his fellow Senators could be expected to clear the way.
Rice is the victim of a bipartisan effort to force the Kerry nomination on Obama. Don’t expect the press to consider this a “war on women” situation.
The SOS has to be confirmed by the Senate. A simple majority of the entire Senate is all that is needed once the nomination is reported out of committee(s). Watch the press to attempt to blame the Republicans for this, even though the ruling Democrat caucus didn’t need one Republican vote to confirm a Rice nomination.
Sure, when a pig flies by a skyscraper window.
Remember when Robert Gibbs looked like the worst staff pick our president could make? Good times.
Sen. Kerry will be an accurate reflection of the administration’s foreign policy. A loyal member of the Davos set. A group of elitists who have more in common with each other then the serfs they rule. (Hat tip to late Samuel P. Huntington)
He certainly will have all the requisite internationalist “flexibility” promised for the second O term.
For evisceration, follow Howie Carr. Howie makes great sport of Kerry regularly on his radio show (He was at it all afternoon; podcasts available on iTunes) and in his column (Boston Herald). Mocks his pomposity mercilessly in highly amusing fashion. Today, Howie recalled the senator’s excellent judgment of character in extolling Assad as a reformer, and let us not forget his choice of a running mate, J Edwards.
It is all so insane, that we should answer now to how many of us would be surprised if he nominated Barbara Walters ?
Ghengis Khan is listening , but the internet connection is weak in Lake Como.
Consider this a positive. For the next 4 years, he’ll be on airplanes overseas and nowhere near the media. Then, his career is done, since either there’s going to be a Clinton or a Republican in office, neither of which is likely to give him any place of responsibility.
Sure, he may cause damage in the interim, but the real damage comes from who the president is, and that one’s already locked in place.
Exactly. This finally gets him out of the Senate and on track to retirement.
Will he now register his yacht in Massachusetts, or in some other nation?
Of course. Why settle for a liar, when we can have a traitor?
