Autumn Colors: The Jollity of Gregor Greenleaf

The Jollity of Gregor Greenleaf

They always said I’m not a leaf,
But now I am their thief of time.
I revel in their Autumn grief.

They needled me for my belief
I served the same as them for pine.
They always said I’m not a leaf.

They fall low to earth by the sheaf
Centipedal abodes to line:
I revel in their Autumn grief.

Deciduous leaves lives are brief,
If I shed tears, they’re sweet, not brine.
They always said I’m not a leaf.

Emptied by wind is their old fief,
While we green needles hang on fine.
I revel in their Autumn grief.

Still these fools shout at me their beef
As they fall to their dooms, not mine.
They always said I’m not a leaf;
I revel in their Autumn grief.

This is the fifth and final in a series of poems called Leaf Droppings after The Life and Times of Leif the Red, On the Tragic Fall of Maurice the Yellow, The Utter Confusion of Agnes the Orange, and The Despair of Bathilda the Brown. The poems take the form of villanelles. It is also part of our ongoing Group Writing project. The September theme is Autumn Colors. You might also be interested in signing up for October’s group writing theme of Trick or Treat.

Yes, could have been called The Schadenfreude of Gregor the Vindictive, but let’s be nice.

Arahant, I think you have little competition for a poetry prize among those who anthropomorphize tree leaves.

Hard to believe, what with the SJWs trying to take over the Leafys the way they did the Hugo Award.

If the scope of the prizes is narrow enough, everyone can win something.

Sounds like a separate post. Maybe we could get @garymcvey to do it?

Have you oiled your armor lately?

The pages are out rolling it around the courtyard in a barrel with oil and sand in it.

Then they curry the horses. Then comes heraldry class.

I thought heraldry was rainy day training. When is the pell training?

They’ll be squires one day. You don’t want to rush combat training.
