Youth Climate Strike
Young people around the world were asked to leave school Friday as part of a Global Climate Strike. Some kids will see this as simply an excuse to miss school but others fully embrace the cause. So, what is the cause?
Obviously, there is the standard “Save the Planet” rhetoric we have heard forever. Looking at the site for the group Youth Climate Strike, I see there are some other issues I might not have guessed. Here are a few samples:
[A]ctively working against, the impacts of climate change on marginalized communities — communities of color, impoverished communities, disabled communities, and LGBTQ+ communities — who are at the frontline of all climate-related disasters.
Interesting to know that the gay guys living across the street from me are “at the frontline” of climate change and I am not. I guess that is because this is isn’t really about climate change, but a Leftist catch-all movement.
[M]ove away from the unjust prison system and the school-to-prison-pipeline, and outlaw private prisons and the forced labor of prison inmates
What about wind-powered prisons? No?
Respect Indigenous women, Indigenous queer and trans women, women of color, and queer and trans people of color and protect them from assault, sexual violence, and trafficking.
So if must engage in sexual violence, avoid those particular classifications. Youth Climate Strike is totally cool with that.
K-8 is the ideal age range for compulsory climate change education because:
Impressionability is high during that developmental stage
Brainwashing is so much easier if you start young.
One encouraging point. For the past 19 years, people have been saying that we only have 12 years to act. Well, this group is saying, “we have 11 years to avoid catastrophic climate change.” Will they change that to 10 next year? One can hope, since going from 12 to 12 every year was getting old.
So get out there and march. By doing so, you can change the world . . . maybe the world won’t actually change, but you will get a chance to say words like “renewable” and “indigenous” over and over again, and that is what really matters.

Standard leftist issue. Surprised no mention of capitalism,
That’s what I’d have done.
If I was a teacher, I’d schedule a test, make it 80 percent of the grade with no possibility of making it up at another time.
Wanna strike? Let’s add consequences so your actions can mean something personally.
Otherwise, you’re just a #hashtag warrior who sacrifices nothing for your cause.
The global climate hoax is the biggest fraud perpetrated on civilization itself. There is no punishment too severe for those who happily brainwash children in support of it. No wonder kids these days are depressed and suicidal in record numbers. They’ve been told they have no future.
I mean, look at this guy:
Severe mental trauma. I pity him.
I’d like to send some form of Child Protective Services to lock up Greta Thurnberg’s parents.
Two headlines from the local fishwrap’s website right now:
In New York, Mayor de Blasio said everyone will be excused because “These kids are fighting for our planet.”
Irresponsible nonsense.
The global climax hoax makes me mad, the lack of any consequences for these Greenist oppressors makes me mad, but the way they use and abuse children makes me so angry I can barely speak.
It’s not like missing a day in our failing public schools is going to harm the kids any more than listening to the tripe they’re taught when they attend . . .
Not.
So it’s consequence-free and approved by authority figures… Maybe I’m too optimistic about this, but I have to give kids today enough credit that they’ll be able to see this for what it is.
Drew, I’m with you, man. These people are villains.
Ain’t this a license to skip every day?
If one day works to save the planet, then why not all of ’em?
Is it a strike if it’s done with permission?
And – do the teachers also get a day off?
Exactly!
More importantly, do the teachers’ unions still get their dues?
And if not – and they have the building running with no people in it – doesn’t that kinda defeat the point? Maybe they should just call it a creative field trip.
I mean, I have no particular problem with kids escaping from government schools. Those schools are probably themselves pretty terrible for the environment.
I can think of a few other things that are terrible for the environment:
Any chance we’ll see environmentalists protesting any of those?
Well, if the right people support these things, maybe. At least for the latter.
I believe bullet three will be getting the treatment soon. They will say that people should take trains. More passenger miles to the gallon possible. The schedule of implementing environmental studies and dealing with the plethora of stakeholders now is prohibitive to building new highways. Not that rail doesn’t have its own impacts.
The whole notion of students “striking” seems ridiculous to me.
The point of a strike — and I mean in theory, in a free market — is to force the other party in a negotiation to acknowledge your value. You inflict pain by depriving them of what it is you can provide.
Secondarily, a strike also demonstrates how far you’re willing to go, because you’re sacrificing something yourself (your paycheck). You’re also taking a risk, because if you’ve overestimated your own market value, you might find yourself replaced and unemployed.
None of this applies to students. The schools don’t care if the students skip class; heck, it makes their lives easier. The students aren’t sacrificing anything, because they don’t want to go to school anyway. They’d much rather be outside waving shouting slogans with their friends and feeling good about themselves. It’s a joke.
The right way to deal with this is to ignore it. Enforce the attendance rules the same as ever. If a student goes out on “strike,” fine: that’s what we call an unexcused absence. Rack up enough of those, and you get an F.
And remember, it’s not just about climate change. You get the whole smorgasbord of lefty social justice nonsense placed in the mouths of babes.

Children’s crusade. The left is sick.
Oh! We can add agriculture too!
They want our cheeseburger, we can take their soy.
Let’s outlaw soy!
I always liked that song. Not sure what today’s woke crowd would think of it though. I mean, it has some good socialist stuff like, “Tax the rich, feed the poor, ‘Til there are no rich no more?” but then it also has “Everywhere is freaks and hairies, Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity“. Anyway great guitar and drums on that track.
I always thought this was sarcasm.
Maybe it was, but it is not when Bernie says it
It was the Saturday Night Classic several years ago.
Bernie strikes me as the kind of guy who often misses the joke.
Our economy will collapse without the valuable services K-12th graders provide.
Surprising no one, some kids used the “strike” to do things other than protest . . . like playing mini-golf.
