Just a Local Crime Story: Midwest Edition

Dr. Ulrich Klopfer died September 3. After his death, an attorney for his family summoned the Will County Sheriff to his rural home south of Chicago. You see, Dr. Klopfer had amassed an interesting collection: Two thousand, two hundred forty-six fetal remains.

Klopfer performed abortions in Fort Wayne, Gary, and South Bend, IN. In 2015, he was brought before the Indiana State Medical Board for violations at the Fort Wayne and South Bend clinics. During the proceedings, he admitted that he had performed an abortion on a ten-year-old girl who, he said, had been raped by her uncle. He also stated that he had performed abortions on 13- and 14-year-olds. He said he was unaware that he needed to report the incidents to police. After all, just because a girl comes in for an abortion doesn’t mean she was abused. Said Klopfer:

If I have a child, 13 or 14, coming to the clinic for an abortion with their mother or father or both, it doesn’t mean in each and every case it’s child abuse.

Klopfer’s Gary clinic was closed previously, but violations at the Fort Wayne and South Bend clinics included what may at this point seem commonplace, including expired medicines, non-existent paperwork or disinfection protocols, a defibrillator that was not maintained and a failure to provide counseling or information to women at the clinics.

His punishment from the state medical board called for providing 20 hours of OBGYN services, including ten hours of abortion services, and payment of a $3,005 fine.

At that Board hearing,

Linda Plummer, an ISDH Public Health Nurse Surveyor, testified about her experiences surveying the Fort Wayne and South Bend clinics. In June 2015, Plummer surveyed the Women’s Pavilion and found issues regarding the wait period for medical abortions and consent forms.

At the Fort Wayne clinic, she found these alleged violations: the defibrillator was not properly maintained with preventative maintenance, expired medications in the emergency drug kit, no log of cleaning rooms, and no procedures in place regarding disinfecting.

Plummer described Klopfer’s demeanor as “blunt” and “abrupt” as the ISDH completed the survey on site in 2015 at the Women’s Pavilion.

Klopfer testified several times at the hearing. As he stated his credentials and experience he said the following,

When I take care of patients, they go home safe and healthy. I didn’t say happy, I said safe and healthy.

Thousands of abortions, carefully preserved. Just a local crime story.

So his punishment for performing unsafe abortions was to perform…more abortions!!??!!

I’m rather surprised there still are unincorporated areas in Will County.

The Board revoked the license for the South Bend and Fort Wayne facilities, but did not revoke his medical license.  He could still do abortions, but not at his own clinic.  Illinois refused to renew his medical license 1/23/17 because of the disciplinary actions in Indiana.

Outside of Joliet there is not much except farmland in Will county.  Klopfer lived in Crete. His house was literally walking distance to the state line.

There is a lot of unincorporated area in Southern Will, but it has seven cities and who knows how many incorporated villages. From maps I’m seeing, it’s probably at least half-incorporated by now. If Illinois didn’t penalize people for living there, it would probably be fully-incorporated by now.

Once you get south of 191st Street, there are cornfields and such.

The pictures of his house show  a couple of dumpsters parked on the driveway.

At this juncture, it is traditional to say “God have mercy on his soul,” but there’s a chance God has other plans, so I’ll leave Him to it.

I can just imagine the family discussion before they decided to call the sherriff.

    I don’t like doxxing.

But I am beginning to favor the hounding of board members and government bureaucrats.

I dislike paying invisible men to work against me, against reason, against morality.

This atrocity needs to be condemned and not allowed to be continued.

Actually it does mean sexual abuse of a minor, and if they became pregnant as a result of a sexual act with an adult it can mean a rape charge. What a sleaze.

Given the demographics of the area, I’d say primarily black. and likely poor.

    Margaret Sanger would be proud.

These stories remind me why I’m not God: I’d have smote (smited?) us a long time ago. Pure evil.

The biggest allegations of malfeasance occurred at the clinics in Fort Wayne and South Bend.   South Bend is a college town…Notre Dame, Holy Cross, St. Mary’s,  you know….  The clinic in South Bend changed its name and is now operated by Klopfer’s former assistant.

An interesting contrast is in the area near the first closed clinic in Gary.  This past week, a healthy newborn was surrendered at a Safe Haven baby box that had gone live less than a month earlier.  The box was built into the side of Franciscan Hospital in Hammond.  The birth mother, who surrendered the baby anonymously and later contacted the toll-free help line on the box, traveled across the state line from Illinois to make a different choice.  Safe Haven Baby Boxes are legal in Indiana, Ohio and Arizona.

    9th,

Many of our Ricochet gang are not old enough to remember what the political discussion over abortion was like before the Roe decision came down in 1973. I can remember the phrase out of the mouths of liberals over and over again. “Back street abortions kill women.” This was their strongest pitch. They were trying to save women from the horrors of “back street abortions”.

This abortion mill and Gosnell’s abortion mill were back street abortions on steroids. He didn’t care how young they were. He didn’t care if the clinic didn’t obey medical standards. He got the job done! In short, every horror told about back street abortions (because they were illegal?!) now was allowed to happen in this quasi-legal sick environment. No one was looking out for the women or to be more precise the young girls subjected to this treatment.

    How low we have fallen.

    Regards,

    Jim

And the most ‘pristine’ (sic) abortionists lauded by Planned Parenthood are no different than Gosnell or Klopfer.

Just an update if you are attempting to follow this story…which is difficult because it is just a local crime story.  This morning, Amy Jacobson with WIND radio said she had spoken to the family attorney. He said that the babies were in sealed bags with the name of the mother and the date of the procedure.  As Indiana now has a law requiring burial of remains, it becomes an issue involving all sorts of interstate laws.  Apparently (and this is anecdotal because I heard it in the radio and have no other documentation) one Indiana woman said he performed a late term abortion and, regretting it years later, wants her child back if it is one of those in his house.  Apparently he was going to the clinic in South Bend once a month and spending the night….

Yes, and there were movies and TV shows depicting it.
