Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Barbara Lydick, Requiescat in Pace

In case you missed it, Barbara’s cousin Judy logged on to Ricochet today to inform us all of Barbara’s passing this past Monday.

I met her at the Cleveland airport 3 weeks ago and we had 2 good weeks to reconnect, reminisce, and to get her affairs in order. Sending a farewell on Ricochet to her chat friends was so important to her in her 2nd week here so when we pressed SEND, she was satisfied. The best part of this was that eve when we checked on line and found over 40 messages! I read them to her and we both wept as so many messages were a real inspiration to her. Thank you so much for taking some time to respond. It was a closure she needed at this juncture of her life.

Blessings to you all, her cousin, Judy

She was one of our originals with a membership dating back to the summer of 2010. As our founder Rob Long noted, “She was fantastic. And 100% American. She was a classic Ricochet member and she needs to be properly memorialized.” Which he plans to do on this week’s podcast.

She could be funny and was always passionate and our Member Feed will be poorer for her absence.

Remember the jokes that she posted in “Bread Lines?”

“When the final phase of socialism, namely communism, is built, will there still be thefts and pilfering?”

“No, because everything will be already pilfered during socialism.”

“What is the most permanent feature of our socialist economy?”

     “Temporary shortages.”

Socialism is a system of governance that heroically overcomes problems that do not exist under other systems.

A teacher asks his class, ‘Who is your mother and who is your father?’

A pupil replies, ‘My mother is Russia and my father is Stalin.’

‘Very good,’ says the teacher. ‘And what would you like to be when you grow up?’

    ‘An orphan.’

A Russian and an American argue about whose country is better. “In the US,” the American says “we have freedom of speech. I can stand facing the White House and scream ‘Reagan is a moron! I hate Reagan!’” “So what,” the Russian counters him. “I can stand facing the Kremlin and scream ‘Reagan is a moron! I hate Reagan!’

A woman walks into a food store. “Do you have any meat?”

    “No, we don’t.”

    “What about milk?

“We only deal with meat. Across the street there is the store where they have no milk.”

    We’ll miss her.

I hadn’t seen her post or the follow-up. Thank you, EJ, for bringing it to our attention. She will be missed, as her presence was appreciated. Do you know anything about funeral arrangements?
