An Accidental Admission About Abortion

Is there an abortion that progressives wouldn’t cheer? From sex-selection to utterly needless slaughter of viable babies, it seems the answer is no. The Associated Press reported on an abortion of the latter variety,

The replies to the tweet were powerful and a testimony to why the vast majority of Americans are opposed to third-trimester abortion on demand,

The AP missed the progressive memo on these abortions: they’re supposedly never performed for convenience sake, they are only for extreme medical cases. And yet, here’s a woman talking about abortion an almost certainly viable baby because she didn’t realize she was pregnant for months. We are still supposed to pity this woman because she had to travel to another state and spend a great deal of money to murder her unborn baby. I’ll save my pity for the baby ripped piece by piece in its mother’s womb.

What the pro-abortion Left doesn’t realize is how powerful these stories are at convincing Americans of the need for more regulation on second and third-trimester abortions.

Which is what makes this news interesting (reported in National Review this week):

In an interview with Dave Rubin yesterday, Hawaii congresswoman and Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard conceded that abortion should not be permitted during the last three months of pregnancy unless the mother was at severe risk.

Gabbard told Rubin she views abortion in a “libertarian” way, saying she doesn’t think government should be dictating women’s choices. “I think that there should be some restrictions though,” she added. Rubin asked if she had a “cutoff point,” to which she replied: “I think the third trimester. Unless a woman’s life or severe health consequences is at risk, then there shouldn’t be an abortion in the third trimester.”

As the campaign progresses, it’ll be fascinating to see how this conversation about third-trimester abortion unfolds on the Left.

I can’t think of a better word to use, but somehow “fascinating” just doesn’t have the right connotation for me.

The left is now about abortion all the time. The safe legal and rare has ended. Abortion is now completely fine for the left.

David Rubin is reluctantly pro-choice but he wants to cut it off at 20 weeks. That is unacceptable to the left.

There has been a consensus about abortion in this country for approximately the last 25 years. Where the country is and where the “thought leaders” on the left are two different things.

I hate to say it but the brutal fact is that this killing is done solely on the need for money and power, be it the money that groups like Planned Parenthood makes or the money progressives reel in for their election campaigns.

A good post.  I’m annoyed with the fact that even many Republicans on the public stage still call it “late term abortion”.  The populous wants to be so woke. Why can’t everyone just call it what it is:  Murder, Execution, Dismemberment?  Because these are words used to describe a crime, both in the legal and moral senses. Those terms make people uncomfortable and unable to rationalize.  The truth is often inconvenient.

I think you are wrong. I think the killing is done because it is convenient to have sex without repercussions. There doesn’t need to be a planned parenthood to take money.

    Assuming there is a conversation.

Gaffe — unintentionally telling the truth.

Followed by, “My work here is done.”

You can’t make this shtuff up.

Am I the only one who has been told that third trimester abortions almost never happen and when they do it is only because the fetus is deformed and would die anyway?

This is a 26-week old baby. Just saying.

The loudest I ever heard my daughter cry was the day she was born, at 28 weeks.

Anyone who tells you it isn’t a baby in there is either terribly ignorant (implausibly so, really) or telling a very terrible lie.

The Associated Press  ✔ @AP A woman who didn’t learn she was pregnant until 26 weeks along is among thousands who cross state lines to get abortions every year.

This shows the pro-abortion crowd overturning Roe v. Wade and returning the issue to the states still won’t stop the process.  They will be forced to argue a woman has the right not to be inconvenienced when it comes to killing her baby . . .

It the lefties want pictures of diseased organs put on every package of cigarettes to make smokers aware of the danger, why can’t we force women who want an abortion to be told about what the procedure entails, even without pictures?

Update:  We know the answer: Smoking bad, abortion good.

This is an argument I’ve had with many people, Stad. Why is it that when it comes to this, and only this, medical decision, patients cannot have all the medical facts before they make it?

I’ve suggested that, if abortion is legal,  junior high school sex ed classes should include Dr. Levantino’s medically accurate videos about first, second and third trimester abortions.

And how was that idea received (never mind, I already know.)

There was a time, believe it or not, that schools didn’t have classes in sex ed.  And there was a time, believe it or not, that parents were given the option and pulled their children out of Health class because masturbation was going to be discussed!

How about having a sex ed class show pictures of a person with tertiary syphilis?  Showing a before-after shot of a pretty girl turning into someone whose nose has rotted off ought to get the message across there’s no such thing as “safe” sex.

We saw some pretty graphic photos of STDs in my high school, and I’m not sure they’re as effective as adults like to think.  We watched a film with some gruesome traffic accident scenes in Driver’s Ed as well, and yet I don’t think a single one of us swore off driving and vowed to take public transit instead.
