Quote of the Day: Never Their Fault

60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation. Keep our name out of your mouth.”  – Lori Lightfoot, Chicago Mayor and national disgrace

This was said in response to Ted Cruz describing the failure of gun control in Chicago. This ignores the continuous and persistent refusal of the local prosecutors to attach serious penalties to gun crime, in some case not even requiring bail. This ignores the inability of the CPD to stop illegal guns from being smuggled into the city. It ignores the massive disparity in gun crime between the other states and Chicago

It says something about Chicago that she was the better choice in the runoff election. Her opponent pushed a massively unpopular soda tax that actually got repealed. For a while, I was smuggling soda in from outside of the county to avoid the tax. It actually got repealed, amazingly enough.

Wonder why they can get away with this? Here is a constituent of hers, on Twitter:

“White supremacists on their way to Chicago for #LaborDayWeekend to carry out a series of covert shootings, that will mysteriously go unsolved, yet ultimately be blamed on “Black culture” when the reports come out Monday that “80 people in Chicago were shot this weekend…” – Tariq Nasheed

I’ve encountered more than a handful of people vocally proclaiming this kind of insane conspiracy. It’s not their fault, it’s not anyone’s fault, it’s the Man keeping them down and shooting people. Therefore, they have no need to actually doing anything about it that might help. When they complain about us offering thoughts and prayers as opposed to immediately doing what they want, they are projecting this mindset onto us.

If all the guns are coming from Indiana and Wisconsin, why is therenot the same level of gun crime in those places?

Didn’t know this was an option.

Are you trying to use logic here?

Shortage of criminals. Guns in the hands of the strictly law-abiding has that effect.

40% come from Illinois . The next highest is  Indiana at 21%. So Illinois supplies the most and has the most strict controls.

I didn’t make it past the first sentence without being offended.  What is an “illegal firearm”?   Did someone find Al Capone’s stash of Tommy guns?   Assuming the mayor means *legal* firearms used illegally or possessed illegally, is 60% a lot or little?  What is the baseline?  What this statistic tells me is that criminals don’t care too much about Chicago’s gun laws.

If Chicago criminals didn’t have guns, they’d use knives or acid like the gangsters in London. Knives don’t create much crossfire but violent criminals will be violent criminals if the police don’t prosecute them.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I still live here. But I’m really beginning to hate this city. And this state. Where is any kind of opposition? Where is our Trump who is independent and successful enough to not care about The Machine and what they can do to him?

No, we get Bruce Rauner for a coupla years who squandered the moment because he never understood the moment. And then he never understood that he was never going to be re-elected and that leading a direct and loud charge against the machine was his only chance. So he lost to the guy who will bring in a graduated tax. At all levels our ride to the cliff edge is going to accelerate.

    Yet it’s all Trump’s fault.

Look, if “black culture” is rampant fatherlessness, fine.  I don’t think it is.  But if Tariq Nasheed (whoever he or she or <insert preferred gender pronoun> is) wants to claim that, that’s their business.

This is the type of trash mouth garbage that we’ve long learned to expect from the party of slavery.  And some people wonder why Trump is popular for not putting up with it.

The problem with a free society is, well, you know…free.  So you can make your laws.  And someone somewhere else won’t have those laws.  And the people will go there and get their guns or their pot or their cigarettes or their single use plastic bags and bring them back.  Simple as that.

When you get to the point, as many in Chicago apparently have, that electing a Republican as mayor is seen as a worse option than the perpetuation of the city’s current crime problems and murder rate, you’re going to get comments like the one Nasheed made. There has to be an explanation that justifies keeping Democrats in control of the city, despite their years of failures, and this one not only attempts to provide that, but manages to blame the murders on the people the Democrats are attempting to claim make up the GOP.

San Francisco has a different level of problems, but their politicians’ actions have caused the same type of decline in the quality of life there, and the pols are attempting the same type of deflection, in going after the National Rifle Association. But in the end, only the voters of those cities can decide whether or not they want to accept the fantasies their leadership is peddling, or try something different.

(And you don’t have to look hard in New York City to find people who were there in 1993 and will claim straight out that the city’s crime rate would have fallen just as fast and the quality of life would have risen just as high if not higher if voters had re-elected David Dinkins instead of putting Rudy Giuliani into office. But just enough people in New York decided six murders per day was too low a quality of life for them to endure and opted to give the other party a chance at governing. The option’s also there for Chicago and San Francisco, but you can’t force the voters to take it, if living in fantasyland is more important to their psyches, to where they can’t be happy if the city’s quality-of-life improves, if it improves without Democrats getting the credit.)

It must be white people because only white people have the means and resources to make a Benz or Beamer invisible while cruising Chatam or Fuller Park while its occupants randomly shoot people with expensive assault weapons.

If Indiana stopped selling guns would Chicago hoods stop wanting to acquire them? Of course!  For example, state and federal authorities ban the possession and sale of heroin and cocaine which means one would have to go to a lot of trouble and find producers very far away to acquire these drugs which is why no one uses these drugs anymore. So clearly banning gun sales in Indiana is the key.

Maybe Chicago will need to build a wall to keep out the white out-of-towners.  It was probably some white Wisconsinites who were the real beaters of Jussie Smollet.

Juicy Smooleeay. Or maybe Chapelle is mispronouncing it slightly. Heh

Yeah, otherwise that quote about white supremacists coming to Chicago to perpetrate all the shootings and blame it on black….. that is downright delusional. In saner times the men in white coats would be on their way to pay this person a visit because whoever this is is obviously a danger to himself and probably others.
