Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Using Children as Political Pawns

Most people would laugh if you suggested that in spite of the perception that child sacrifice has ended, it hasn’t. A person need only look at the way the immigrant children are being used to know that figuratively, child sacrifice for the political Left is alive and well.

You might think I’m using hyperbole, but there is a history of the Left using and manipulating children for politics, and these practices are getting worse. Does anyone remember which Democratic National Convention planted children at the podium who despaired about the effects of climate change? They were being used to call out the potential end of the world if we didn’t all take action. Or what about the children who were taught songs about President Obama?

Especially outrageous was a statement about the role of public schools, called “government-run schools”:

. . . some degree of ideological indoctrination and glorification is inevitable in government-run schools, and is in fact one of the purposes of such schools (which have long been justified as means of assimilating children into American democratic culture), doesn’t mean that it’s proper to lead children in songs praising the current President or particular aspects of his political agenda (“Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans / To make this country’s economy number one again!”). I would have thought that this was pretty clear, and it probably is to most teachers in most schools — but not, unfortunately, in this instance.

I guess those teachers didn’t get the memo.

We also have seen Progressive politics dominating the curriculum in our schools, indoctrinating the future leaders of our country.

Most recently I was outraged at how innocent children were being used as political pawns regarding immigration. The Democrats in the House have effectively refused to fund services at the border and were blaming President Trump. They have refused to fund either the renting or construction of facilities. They weren’t interested in funding basic necessities for toddlers and small children. Their mission spread to 500 employees at the furniture retailer, Wayfair. Employees were demanding that Wayfair refuse to sell beds to supply immigrants and their children at the border. Fortunately. Niraj Shah, Wayfair CEO, rejected the petition. The employees were adamant:

‘We’re walking out in protest of our leadership’s decision to sell to reprehensible concentration camps,’ a Wayfair employee told the Washington Post. ‘We had hoped that raising awareness would be enough for them to do the right thing, but it wasn’t. We want to make it clear that this is not a political issue — it’s a humanitarian issue, and we will not back down.’

Humanitarian issue. Right.

Some progress was being made to provide funding. The House passed an appropriations bill this past Tuesday. The Senate rejected it, due to ridiculous limitations that were included. The Senate then voted on its own bill, which also passed. Finally, Pelosi presented the Senate bill on the House floor and it passed.

Unfortunately, that money will probably be spent very quickly.

This article shines a light on the reality of the situation, including the bed sales by Wayfair:

Here is the deal and what most normal level headed Americans seem to think about the issue — the thought of these children in detention centers is awful, but the thought of them not having beds is even worse. If the sale is stopped, they will not have beds.

But, for some leftists, it seems they truly want open borders. Rather than acknowledge that the United States government has to hold these migrants until they can be properly vetted, the left seems to think the government can allow them into the country, no conditions at all. A country cannot allow an endless flow of people into its borders. The government also should not detain individuals without even giving proper necessities.

So, these leftists either want to destroy American sovereignty and allow everybody and their mother into the country, or they want to deprive children of beds. Good luck convincing the majority of Americans with either of those arguments.

Meanwhile, the Senators and Representatives can enjoy their one-week break, and I hope they’ll think about the squalid conditions, lack of beds and basic supplies for the immigrants at the border. What will they do when the money runs out?

Thank goodness for the compassionate Left.

Using people of any sort, of any age, and playing on their fear, desperation, misery, greed, or any one of the myriad ills that beset the human spirit, in order to take advantage of them for your own ends, is despicable.

Using children in that way is doubly and triply so. Unfortunately, we see examples of both, every day, in relation to the situation at the southern border of the US.

Someone, maybe several Republicans, a group of them have to speak out passionately (Lindsey Graham passion not Mitch McConnell passion) and call it what it is: a blatant disgusting manipulation of the situation at the cost of risking lives of human beings!! C’mon, Republicans. Speak up!

I hope Wayfair was taking names of the employees who went on strike in support of depriving the innocent, sick, hungry, and now, even sleepless poor children of beds. The corporation must be shocked that they had so many heartless people in their employ. It’s time to put out the “HELP WANTED” signs.

Oh, but @cdor. It wasn’t about the beds! It was about Trump’s policies at the border ! [sarc off]

I have not seen any compelling evidence of squalid conditions. Nor have I seen evidence of children in cages. Is the government this good at keeping secrets? Or, is it all just propaganda??

The problem is that I don’t think there are reliable sources that have been inside these facilities. And of course, exaggeration is part and parcel of any media reports, if not downright lying. The cages were the ones Obama used and that were used temporarily. But hey, who cares about accuracy and truth if it fits their ugly narrative?

Great Post Susan. Call me crazy, but I think those teachers violated the Equal Protection rights of thousands of people, including many children, and should by hauled off to jail for a very long time.

“I have not seen any compelling evidence of squalid conditions.”

Whaddaymean DonG! Didn’t you see the expression on AOC’s face ? ( as she looked out through a fence at empty parking lots allegedly at the border) Isn’t that enough by itself?

Only too true, if we don’t speak out. Thanks, @oldbathos.

Yeah! So there! It is all too sad that people can start rumors and they become instant facts. Why doesn’t that work for our side??
