Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. NPR Bingo!

Having come to the conclusion that I cannot drive and rip the radio out of the console and toss it out the window at the same time, I have instead decided to vent my NPR rage to a more productive endeavor. To wit: Bingo! Just toddle over to your local left-wing NPR station and turn up the volume. You win with either a reference to the word in each box or by a report on the topic. It won’t take long…

Edits or alterations welcome!

Not without having a tall W&S ready to hand.

Calm down and change the station from NPR to your local country music station. If I listened to NPR I’d need twice the blood pressure meds I take already.

Woulda been funnier if you’d invented a definition and taken credit for coining a new word.

Not a challenge. They could easily hit every one of those in an average 5-minute story.

I always loved this video – but after the second or third time I watched it, I noticed the radio story playing in the background. You can hear it well in the beginning and at the end. I went and checked – the story playing on the radio is a real NPR story, or at least they actually ran a story on…turtle bridges.

Warning: some people don’t see the humor in the police stuff.

    To all,

Ahhh!! The genius of Ricochet at work. We start with nonsense progress to confusion and then in a borderline mystical way we obtain the answer. Much like the Democrats only we know that we’re full of it and they’re as happy as can be with the whole thing.

    Regards,

    Jim

I used to drive a lot, say 16-18 hours a week, not counting commuting. Before I discovered audio books, I listened to The Morning Edition and All Things Considered religiously. Couldn’t handle Terry Gross, though. My blood pressure was fine. Of course, I was younger then.

Ray Suarez with “Talk of the Nation” was sensible in the 1990s. Then he moved on and it swung hard left. He too swung hard left, I think, with the election of Bush43.

How about a 1 hour interview with a Muppet historian?

I so wish this were true: I used to be a liberal. I got sick of the NPR pledge break one morning and changed the channel to Rush and the rest is history.

Mr. She and I used to listen to, and make fun of, Weekend Edition years ago, when the host was, in Mr. She’s lingo, “Snot Simon.” He particularly enjoyed it when “Croaky Roberts” was on, too.

What got to me, way back in days of yore when I was liberal-ish, was the “NPR voice.” You know, the soft, somewhat soothing, somewhat creepy tone employed by so many of the presenters. It grated and I quit listening.

BTW, I was a regular NPR listener from the early 80’s until 2000. During the 2000 presidential campaign I listened to a story where people bemoaned the fact that people institutionalized for mental health issues were disenfranchised. At no point did anyone – host or guests – even mention an alternative point of view. NPR has made me angry during previous political campaigns but that was the final straw for me.

I know what you mean. It’s like high-grade processed smarm. It’s brahman vocal chords spritzed with bespoke snake oil. It’s talking real pretty-like because it’s almost time to pass the collection plate and volunteers are waiting to take your call.

    TBA & Suspira,

This is a perfect description except you left out genderless. The males (I use this term loosely), all over the age of 21, sound like 12-year-old boys before their voice changed. Even creepier.

This could be the basis for an interesting post. “Why did you stop listening to NPR?” People could recount the absurdity that (finally) led them to realize that they should stop listening to radical Leftist nonsense delivered in a calm and mildly earnest tone that, until their epiphany, somehow made the ridiculous seem reasonable.

Being far ahead of the curve, I never listened to NPR intentionally. I don’t even remember my initial exposure — probably in someone else’s car — but I immediately recognized it as Progressive drivel.
