Biden of Bray and Mr. Hyde
When he was exploring a run for the presidency in 2008, Biden famously said: “I will shove my rosary beads down the throat of any Republican who says I am not a Catholic.”
I stand in awe of Joe Biden as a fellow Roman Catholic. Never have I known a coreligionist so utterly immune to conscience in the pursuit of the awesome power of the presidency. Not even John Kerry. Or the Kennedys. Oh… never mind. I thank God we Catholics don’t have to claim the Clintons! My sympathies to the Baptists (Bill) and the Methodists, for whom Hillary Clinton once taught Sunday school. Ack! Get thee behind me Satan!!
The above quote is taken from Fr. George W. Rutler’s piece in Crisis Magazine titled, The Strange Case of Dr. Biden and Mr. Hyde, in which he “destroys” Joe Biden. No, really, I sound jokey, but you must read the whole thing. Here’s a teaser:
Biden was given an honorary doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin, in 2016, enriching his academic laurels which were tenuous after he placed 75 out of 86 in his Syracuse College of Law class, although he claimed to have been in the top half. But if politics is the art of the possible, one must expect artistic liberties. Drawing on, and perhaps exhausting, his information on Shakespeare, Biden said that his mistake regarding school grades, like his propensity for appropriating sources without attribution, is “much ado about nothing.” Academic rankings are not assurances of intelligence; in fact, Mr.—that is, Dr. Biden told a voter during a campaign stop in New Hampshire in 1987: “I think I probably have a much higher I.Q. than you.” Armed with such confidence, Biden has wrestled with his conscience like a Sumo wrestler, thudding against that “aboriginal vicar of Christ” and bouncing off. Free of constricting guilt, and unafraid of the foolish need for consistency which is the hobgoblin of those little minds with I.Q.’s less than his, Biden now presents himself to the public as a prodigy of rejuvenation. With hair thicker and teeth whiter, beyond the skill of frail Mother Nature, and armed with his lethal Rosary, he is ready to lead America like an eager Boy Scout helping an unwilling lady across the wrong street.
I don’t think I can add anything to that. Rutler has left Joe Biden standing naked in the public square, strategically clutching his Rosary beads and grinning that dopey Brite Wite grin.
In sadness, I note Henry Hyde (also Catholic) considered the Hyde Amendment his greatest achievement. Surely the Congressman knew that money is fungible and any tax dollars which go to Planned Parenthood for any reason are in support of abortion. The intention was good, but it’s the fruits that matter. How long, O Lord?

I love this play on the title of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella. It’s all over the place, including here on Ricochet via the title of a Commentary podcast. And by love, I mean love to hate. It gets the title wrong, reverses the premise of who’s good and who’s evil, and to top it off is politically confusing as well.
For 8 years the media stumbled all over themselves to make sure Biden’s wife, Jill, was called “Dr. Biden.” (She has a PhD in Education). Now when headlines talk of Dr. Biden… well, he’s not what springs to mind.
You’ll notice I didn’t use it. I was just quoting others! Don’t hurt me.
‘sides, Biden of Bray has a nice alliteration.
Oh, I noticed. Which is why I highlighted the Commentary podcast.
When Biden was voicing support of the Hyde Amendment, I thought that perhaps he had a smattering of principles. When he made the 180 degree turn, I realized that he is no better than Obama. The best strategy Democrats can muster seems to be to obtain the support of the press and to keep as quiet as possible otherwise. It does seem to be rather effective as long as the MSM can keep hiding the flaws.
Thinking about the ramming rosary beads quote, this may be the most appalling thing anyone has ever said.
Rosary beads are for prayer. Using a religious tool as a weapon is despicable enough in itself, but here it’s in service of Biden’s ego and standing as a “Catholic”. Pretty much proving he’s missed the fundamental point of not just Catholic teachings, but all religious thought.
Unbelievable….
Not really.
If it was religious IQ it would be in the negative numbers.
The quote inadvertently proves the very thing he’s trying to deny.
I guess math’s not one of his stronger subjects…
Did we need more evidence that Joe is a nightmare?
No. But that article is hilarious.
I hope Biden is better than Obama. I don’t think Biden secretly hates America.
I wasn’t aware of the quote about a rosary, but I guarantee you he never prays with one. I don’t know any Catholic who says ‘rosary beads.’ It’s a rosary. Yeah, like Terry Anderson and Lawrence Jenco made for themselves out of threads from a sack while in captivity in Iran. Biden is a fool.
It really is appalling. His dopey Uncle Joe shtick is a cover for a truly malicious character. I’m surprised so many Americans don’t see through it.
His voting record makes it obvious.
This is a telling condemnation of not only Joe Biden, but of the bishops of his home state of Delaware and the bishops of Washington D. C.. Of course, this applies not only to Biden but to all the prominent Democrat politicians who state they are members of the Church. It is a huge failure of the Church that these men and women can claim to be faithful Catholics and still act and legislate as they do. Until those spineless bishops who refuse to invoke the sacramental disciplinary norm (not a canonical sanction as our friend Blasé Cupich hides behind) of Canon 915 do so, and do so publicly (as did Bishop Paprocki of Springfield IL), this nonsense will continue and we will continue to get frauds like Biden spouting their heresies.
