In the accompanying video below, the Corridor guys describe how they created the video above.
What’s remarkable is that essentially two guys on the Corridor team did most of the work. As the tools to create CGI, the software and the hardware, become more affordable, it essentially means that someone without a great deal of rendering knowledge can begin to create videos that can fool most viewers. The paradigm shift at work is what is sometimes referred to as the democratization of technology – as technology gets more sophisticated, it also gets more affordable and then begins to displace larger enterprises or highly-paid experts who jealously guarded their secrets and charged very high rates for their services.
CGI special effects work that used to be done, say by large teams at Lucasfilm or Weta Digital (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Chappie, District 9), Pixar, or others will soon be done by a couple of pimply 14-year-olds in a basement or a garage after school.
Align this with the Deep Fake videos that cropped up recently and teenagers could convincingly depict well-known news anchors broadcasting an apocalyptic WWIII video or natural disaster that isn’t happening or feed convincing “documentary” footage of a revolutionary uprising in a 3rd world country and submit it to news stations like a real event. As I commented before, if the CIA or other clandestine agencies aren’t developing the ability to fool and undermine this country’s enemies, they may want to, because America’s enemies may beat them to it.Published in
