Candice Owens: Too Aggressive or Is This What We Need More Of?

On Powerline Blog, I watched two videos of Candice Owens testifying at a Congressional Hearing on White Nationalism and Hate Crimes. Personally, I feel she did a great job, but I wonder if her style of being blunt, aggressive, and forceful will be effective.

You only need to watch about the first and last minute of the second video. The rest you have already heard about a thousand times.

Thoughts?

    And the media’s coverage is . . .

That’s why Sidney Harman was able to buy Newsweek for $1.

I followed Newsweek’s comment on twitter yesterday. The pushback was brutal with many a clever comment about $1

I like Candace Owens and greatly appreciate her courage, however, I would hope this episode in her career will reinforce in her long term memory to never use the name Hitler with any positive words associated with it (ie: bad guy… but sure had a great mustache, mass murderer …. but you had to like the goose step, etc.)

Your enemies will never appreciate the nuance.

She’s pretty smart. I think she’s figured that out. ;-)

I agree with the above comments. Just wondered if I was off base. I have been told I am too “prickly” when I respond that way.

She reminded me of Clarence Thomas responding to the Anita Hill accusations. Thomas was also raised by a hard working grandfather, who never told them that they couldn’t succeed.

    I’ve been told I’m intimidating :p

Aggression in defense, persuasion in offense I think should be a good way of going about it.

Conviction when faced with challenge and diplomacy to gain ground.

Whether or not America is ‘post-Christian’, she definitely no longer admires meekness and humility.

So who exhibited this best? Patrick Henry or Davey Crockett? FDR? Teddy?

The guys who cooked up American Exceptionalism?

Just ask the British – we’re all brash cowboys with loud voices and swagger.

I’d never heard of Candice Owens. I heard a good part of her speech on the radio today and I was amazed. She has a story to tell, as an African American woman, a conservative and someone who grew up in the South along with her sharecropper grandfather. This is a story that the new radical Democratic Socialist party doesn’t want you to hear. I challenge anyone to dispute what she had to say. She’s not a victim. If you Google her speech, anyone and everyone is slamming it – what else is new? If she had all the right liberal political talking points, she would be portrayed differently – and she sees right through it – Go Candice!

I know you are very smart and politically engaged. I’m surprised you had never heard of Candace Owens. Thank for sharing that, but it says something about the MSM , to which we are all exposed. And maybe you FSC , should expand your news sources. @frontseatcat There’s a whole new world out there of media suppressed activists and pundits!

    Ok – any suggestions?

Dave Rubin’s catalogue of right-leaning guests might be a good place to start. Check them out.

It’s a good place to cut your teeth without getting too far out there. Candace Owens was interviewed by him.

I can’t even remember how I heard about her… I think I was watching red-pill documentary stuff and she was recommended viewing.

Seemingly intelligent people buy into this nonsense in the same way they bought into the “Russians Stole the Election!” nonsense.

Most of those same knuckleheads shrugged when Obama told Medvedev “after my election I have more flexibility” and roared with laughter when Obama said “the Eighties called and they want their foreign policy back.”

I’ve mentioned the idea here in the past but I still hope that President Trump would host some diner at the White House to recognize black conservatives. They are some of the freest thinkers and bravest people out there today. They could easily fill a ballroom there. Imagine an event with Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Shelby Steele, Walter Williams, Herman Cain, Justice Thomas… – make sure to include young kids from Candice Owen’s organization and YFA, include the media and let them stew. Include Diamond & Silk and the Hodge Twin, Kanye West evens – make it fun and serious and broad based socioeconomically & culturally.

Of course, they’d immediately get slimed as “Uncle Tom’s” or of insufficient “negritude.” Still, he should do it. And he should push the ideas, not just the persons.

The Congressional hearings give the Congresspeople the opportunity to behave like ahrsehats, and it’s awesome when the recipient of the Congresspersons arhsehattery sticks it right back up their pompous Congressional giggy.

Thanks to Candace Owen more people are now aware Congressman Ted Lieu (D CA-33) is a bonafide idiot wanker, and Committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D NY-10) is just another idiot wanker only with the bigger chair and a gavel.

You gotta love Candace saying, (I accurately paraphrase) “You misquoted saying that you were dumb. I said that you think that black people are dumb and that you are wrong.” She is like Jordan Peterson being polite and accurate while not givin an inch. That’s what we need on the right.

I love me some Gavin McInnes and some Sargon of Akkad but they are so coarse they turn off alot of people. Candace was super polite and totally on point. I love that.

We won’t know if Candace is too aggressive until after the election.  She is trying to bring attention to the plight of Black Americans who have depended on Democrats to address the issues that affect her community, but have failed.

I think it is healthy for blacks to think clearly and for themselves, but I don’t know how to communicate a sense of welcome within the Republican Party for them.  We have failed to communicate effectively, maybe she knows what we do not.

All Republicans need to be more aggressive. I’m tired of letting Democrats set the rules of “civilized” discourse. The moment you allow someone do that to you, you’re done. This applies to life in general, not just politics.

Blunt honesty works. Calling out nonsense works. Keeping it short and sweet works. People remember a good zinger more than they will remember a droning retort.

I’m tired of wishy-washy Republicans who kowtow to these attacks. I’m glad that we have young conservatives out there who grasp this. This gives me hope for the future. Candice Owens, Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh and others are excellent at making their arguments clear as day and exposing nonsense for what it is. Most importantly, they’re connecting with young people. It’s a good start. More of this, please.
