Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Biden Discovers the Concept of Personal Space

Joe Biden hears you, ladies, and promises to grope no more. (Click “more” to watch the video.)

Will this be enough to get the “me too” crowd out of his hair, so to speak?

He needs to strip down, pour honey over himself, and lie on a red anthill while screaming “I’m sorry.” That will work. Maybe.

I’ve grappled with my feeling about Joe Biden over the years. Always had trouble grasping or having a feel about his politics and personality. I found his latest video to be very touching.

Joe Biden is old school Democrat – as he said, the social norms “have changed”. It’s all about the selfie – but don’t get close. In PA, where I grew up, people kissed on the mouth, parents and children, you hugged, maybe in other areas of the country, this didn’t happen. It was natural. Maybe it’s an imported European thing.

I feel sorry for him – good grief – expressions of affection and concern can raise eyebrows to where they disappear into one’s hair, and can get you beat to hell on social media? This is where we are – why?? Because of Me too? Are people and women that paranoid?

It’s not black and white – men that have taken advantage of women, past presidents, entertainers, sports figures, Hollywood execs, were awful and should be punished. But being concerned and expressive toward our fellow human beings should not be discouraged. This is the fear mongering that is displayed in cold communities of communism and dictatorship, where people don’t even smile. Let’s not make that the norm.

I’d like an apology for “they gonna put yawl back in chains!” – then we can talk Joe.

I was a child when I learned to despise Joe Biden. I saw him on PBS one afternoon during, I think, the Watergate affair. He was the first politician I sat and watched and listened to closely.

He had no idea that there was anything wrong with swimming in the nude in the presence of female Secret Service agents. Yea, right.

On the other hand, Uncle Joe has little trouble grasping and or having a feel. Sometimes even both hands.

The very definition, nay epitome of sexual harassment.

Good Lord. This was news to me. And reminded me of the stories, of John Conyers at the time he “retired,” that he would show up for official meetings in only his underwear. (In the midst of one sexual harassment scandal after another, Nancy Pelosi said of Conyers that he had done a lot to protect women. Go figure.)

Why geriatric Democrat male politicians seem so eager to “strip off and show their shortcomings,” (h/t David Niven) in front of the women who are obliged to work for them, or with them, is one of life’s mysteries. Or perhaps not.

I do find Joe Biden creepy. I try to keep in mind, as Tucker Carlson said last night, that “there’s a difference between ‘Eskimo kissing’ and rape.” I can grasp that, I think. But all these collages/montages of him doing exactly the same thing, in exactly the same way, to dozens of different women over the course of years is creepy. It doesn’t look to me like he’s “reaching out” in a spontaneous moment of “human connection.” It looks to me like he’s doing something over and over again because it makes him feel good. ‘Nuff said.

I’m not getting on the schadenfreude bus just yet, though. The latest iteration of the outrage machine, directed against a politician whose proclivities have been well-known for decades, and who, within living memory, served eight years as Vice President of the United States (he was that just three years ago, IIRC) is just another political stunt.

The latest stop on Biden’s apology tour is at least as cringeworthy as rest of them. If he were really contrite, he’d shut up, fold his tent, go home, and enjoy his family for what time remains to him, instead of behaving like the guy on the Ancestry commercial who, having grown up believing that he’s a Kalahari Bushman for his entire life, suddenly discovers that his genes say he’s of 100% Scottish descent, and who immediately puts on a kilt, starts doing the Highland Fling, and announces that he’s delighted, at last, to discover “who he really is.” (Bit of exaggeration, for effect. Not much.)

For me, the fact that Joe Biden is another political hack and a creep really isn’t news at all, although some of his recently outed exploits, which just confirm my previous opinion, may be. For his own good, someone should simply tell him to go away and tend to his family. I’m not sure anyone will anytime soon, though. He’s a useful idiot for both sides at the moment, and I doubt either one wants to lose what they see as the advantage he gives them.

Not if he didn’t address the Secret Service issue. That alone and exclusively should be enough to remove Joe’s presidential ambitions.

I was going to say this, but @She beat me to it.

There’s also the look on those women’s/girls’ faces that say, “How do I get this guy to leave me alone?” They’re there to honor husband, father, whatever, as he’s being sworn in to public office, and there’s this old guy they don’t know putting his hands on them, kissing them, stroking their hair. They can’t react in the way they would obviously prefer to—because it’s an important event, they’ve got to “behave,” and it’s the vice president (or whatever–he’s “important”).

The biker lady in the cafe who apparently enjoys Biden’s attentions (whatever the other biker guys at the table might think) is one thing.

The woman who looks like she wants to run from the room is another.

He’s using his position to behave in a way that some random stranger in the grocery store would get kicked out for. It may not be sex, but it’s power. And I notice that the dads smile all the way through it (although it’s an open question, in the videos, whether they’re aware of their daughters’/wives’ discomfort).

A girl may have to kiss her grandmother even if she doesn’t feel like it, but the vice president of the United States is not her grandmother. She should be able to say, “Get your hands off me!” even if she’s twelve years old and her dad needs this guy’s support to succeed in Washington.

    It absolutely is.

He demonstrates power by behaving this way, secure in the belief that he will not get 5 across the chops and he does it for all to see.

I think Joe Biden’s public fondling of teenagers and little girls is not “perfectly normal.” Convince me I’m wrong.

He’s not fit to be president. Any sane man stays as far as possible from teenagers and little girls.

Even women teachers! Teachers have been cautioned about hugging their students for at least a decade.

If Joe Biden had done that to one of my girls (and then gave them the awful advice — “no serious guys until you’re 30”) he would have been eating a knuckle sandwich and I would have been covered in Secret Service sauce.

So is Trump fit to be President, having apparently not touched little girls but being a confirmed adulterer whereas Biden is apparently the opposite?

Not that I want to get involved in a big Trump fight. I’m just not clear on what the standard is.

(For the record, whether fit or not, I expect to vote for Trump next year. Better than the alternative, and much good has come of Trump’s first few years.)

    Ok.

It’s a consistent and clear standard for the Presidency. I think of adultery as a much worse sin than anything we’ve confirmed Biden has done, but I don’t suppose any of them were ever running for pastor or role model.

I haven’t seen this diagnosis appear in a comment yet: Joe Biden’s “warm” behavior, especially but not exclusively regarding women, is physical aggression. Joe is both a thug and a weakling, however polished and presentable. He figures that a confident, big-sloppy-dog approach will both receive a pass and get him an edge. Wouldn’t you be thrown off if a man in a powerful position laid his hands freely on your daughter? wife? on you? That feels good to him, even when he doesn’t need it for leverage.

It’s about power, but Joe’s mentation doesn’t rise to a level that could recognize that. He just knows he gets away with it and that makes it even better.

You know it’s true. That’s why he swims naked in front of people whose job is to watch out for him. He can’t resist the opportunity to get over on someone in a weaker position. Joe Biden is stupid and incompetent at everything except graft and campaigning – his sleazy leg-humping is all he’s got besides a pleasant face and his repertoire of pablum.

Joe Biden isn’t a pedophile or even a pervert. He’s a common dull bully who never got the physical beatings that might have straightened him out and made him something more closely resembling a man.
