Schadenfreude Monday Continues

It was a fun news weekend watching the collapse of the flimsy Russian conspiracy theory. On Friday, Mueller cleared Trump of collusion and left the issue of obstruction unresolved. Then, Sunday morning, Attorney General Bill Barr revealed there’s no reason to fall down the obstruction rabbit hole. Stick a fork in it; the Mueller probe is done.

“Don’t worry,” media dead-enders said, “the real action is happening at the SDNY District Court!” As of Noon Monday, the SDNY had weighed in — by arresting unhinged Trump critic Michael Avenatti.

Michael Avenatti, the former attorney for adult-film star Stormy Daniels, was accused Monday by federal prosecutors in New York of operating “an old-fashioned shakedown” by trying to extort between $15 and $25 million from sports apparel giant Nike, part of a string of bombshell claims against the celebrity lawyer.

Avenatti, who briefly considered a bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, also was charged with wire fraud and bank fraud in a separate case out of California. He was taken into custody and expected to appear in court later Monday in New York City.

Prosecutors said Avenatti tried to extort Nike “by threatening to use his ability to garner publicity to inflict substantial financial and reputational harm on the company if his demands were not met.”

Within an hour, some reporters on Twitter claimed Avenatti was being represented by fellow sleazeball attorney Mark Geragos, who previously represented Jussie Smollett, Colin Kaepernick, and Michael Jackson. Seems the media got their wires crossed again. Geragos was indicted too:

Today, U.S. attorneys indicted not only Trump-era villain and creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti, but also celebrity attorney Mark Geragos as a co-conspirator. The nation’s two most famous legal frauds now face charges related to an extortion scheme.

Avenatti’s been a walking dumpster fire and foil to the Trump presidency, but Geragos has scammed the system for years, representing not just the dregs of Hollywood — Chris Brown for domestic violence and Michael Jackson for pedophilia — but also #Resistance heroes such as Colin Kaepernick and hate-crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett. Much like Avenatti, Geragos never met a camera he didn’t love, and now the pair are finally facing their comeuppance in criminal court.

Both Avenatti and Geragos served as official analysts for CNN, cable’s main purveyor of Russian conspiracy theories for the past two years. Sweet, sweet schadenfreude.

This is Donald Trump’s best week ever and it’s only Monday.

It’s all a beautiful thing!  Now Trump can substantiate the claim of fake news. Frankly he’s headed for a landslide win. If he doesn’t botch it.

What a great week. Trump is vindicated & Avenatti has been charged with multiple crimes on both coasts! I was so giddy I actually tuned in to CNN & MSNBC. Briefly.

Barbra Streisand should count her lucky dollars that her disgusting Michael Jackson remarks are being buried in the news by these stories.

Couldn’t happen to nicer guys. Ha. Avenatti is such a sleazy ambulance chaser and liar. How in the world the MSM ever took this guy seriously is beyond me.

I would really like to hear what lawyers say about the reputation of Mark Geragos. I never thought of him as being that bad, like what I’m seeing here, but what do I know?

So “coverage fake fake”?  LOL. I thought it was something serious. That was a waste of ten minutes of my life. But you guys certainly had fun with that thread.

Maybe. Maybe it was just a typo. Michael Knowles uses it as a term for Trump awesomeness. I usually use it as a term for Trump-related hilarity.

You know the Laurel-Yanny thing? Trump claims to hear neither. He hears “covfefe.” It’s on YouTube.
