Quote of the Day – The Government’s Role

 

It is amazing how many people think that the government’s role is to give them what they want by overriding what other people want. – Thomas Sowell

More Sowell food for thought.

This quote seems particularly appropriate given that the socialists of the Democrat Party, as exemplified by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, seem to be in full gear. The New Green Deal is one example: is Ocasio-Cortez’s assertion, that if we who fail to see global warming as a crisis fail to offer solutions that means she “is the boss.” (Oh lady. You and what army? Talk about playing with fire by people who do not know fire is hot.)

We know where giving people what they want by overriding what other people want ends? In the death camps of Nazi Germany, the GuLags of Soviet Russia, and the colectivos of Venezuela. And yet many people who think themselves the smartest person in the room insist of persisting in the stupidity of giving people what they want by overriding what other people want.

    Oh, I wish that was true, Susan, but if the Left takes the reins of government, plan on the State deciding whether or not your stuff is really yours (“you didn’t build that…”), and determining how much of that stuff you really need. They will do what justice requires, namely, that your stuff be given to others who don’t have your unfair advantages in life.

    We’ve been a Republic before. Another national government tried to stop it, too.

    Police officers? How quaint… In about two years, if guns are to be surrendered, drones will be the culprits attempting to disarm us.
