Why People Hate the Media, Everywhere.
The Irish Health Minister is in deep trouble. Simon Harris allowed the new children’s hospital’s costs to over-run from under a billion to now over two billion. Yes, TWO BILLION. It will be the most expensive hospital ever built, but Harris has claimed he knew nothing about the cost over-run.
Now you’d expect Ireland’s journalists to be all over him for this, but instead many are near dead silent. Or worse they post nonsense like the above. This account is run by the Irish Times‘ (our version of the NYT) chief political correspondent Michael O’Regan. In the tweet, he is responding to another person who is sympathetic to Harris for all his achievements, that he not be remembered for his incompetence. The “journalist” praises Harris for his handling of – wait for it – Ireland’s repeal of the ban on ABORTION.
I said it last year and I’ll say it again: Ireland’s press gave Harris a shield from all criticism because he supported abortion, and now even when he faces deserved abuse and hopefully soon to be unemployment, they still offer praise. The destruction of the unborn is rewarded by Ireland’s “journalists”. They value liberal causes like abortion above all.
They make me sick. This isn’t an American disease; journalism across the world is in crisis. They deserve the contempt that many show them and more so.

I can only speak to journalism in the US since I don’t read or follow international news, but journalism in the US is what it is because it has been saturated with the left’s world view. It only sees in terms of left ideology and substantiates a left world view. I imagine it’s similar the world over.
This might be because they are tight with the ruling class. They like to be associated with those who bash heads and kick things around, because when things happen, that’s news. Now at times they have been tight with those out of power, especially if those people intend to be revolutionary reformers who will bash heads and kick things around, because those are newsmakers.
I doubt this rule always holds, but it seems to some of the time.
Of course, once upon a time there was a relatively evenly-divided diversity in the world views of journalists. It’s hard to imagine that nowadays.
How much did they budget for when they started building the convention centre?

They stayed pretty close to budget, apparently. OCCC was built over decades, a piece at a time, and the really big parts were pretty straightforward.
If you’ve never been there’s it’s two IMMENSE buildings, able to hold well over 120,000 people, at full capacity.

Meanwhile the Irish Times writes in celebratory terms about Iran- not a mention here,or in a matching editorial, of its sponsorship of terrorism. Not even a passing reference to Syria. CNN wouldn’t stoop so low.
If they were liberal they’d be conservative. They used to be liberal but now are leftist. (Liberal and leftist used to go together, but not so much any more, as even some of the leftniks will now tell you.)
