One Side Now: The Green Raw Deal
With apologies to Joni Mitchell, here’s my adaptation of her song: “AOC One Side Now.” Suggestions are welcome.
Rows and flows of angel hair
And Leftist castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at energy that way
But now they don’t block the sun
That CO2 stuff will kill everyone
So many things I would have done
But planes were grounded to stay
I’ve looked at energy from one side now
From windmills to solar and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really doesn’t know much at all
Moons and Junes and ferries wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As Leftist fairy tales come real
I’ve looked at energy that way
But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em stranded when you go
And if you care, don’t let people know
Don’t give her strategy away
I’ve looked at energy from one side now
From renewable crap and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really…
Here’s the revised version:
AOC One Side Now
Rows and flows of angel hair
And Leftist castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at fuel that way
But now they cannot block the sun
That CO2 kills everyone
So many things I would have done
But planes were grounded to stay
I’ve looked at fuel from one side now
From windmills to solar and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really doesn’t know much at all
Moons and Junes and ferries wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As Leftist fairy tales come real
I’ve looked at fuel that way
But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em stranded when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give her goals away
I’ve looked at fuel from one side now
From renewable crap and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really…
I quote from another person’s entry on another discussion board related to the building industry seen just this morning:
Do trains not require energy? And I guess we are supposed to also raze any coastal building not 20 feet or so above the new ocean level prior to expiration of their normal expected lifespans? Or “lift” existing ones?
Maybe she’s watched too many science fiction computer special effects movies.
“Energy” doesn’t work well. The original things (clouds, love, life) are all one strong syllable, like sun, wind, dams, etc.
Agreed. Do you have a suggestion?
The rhythm is totally off from the original. Perhaps:
Were I really rewriting this song as a parody, all that I would keep would be the structure. And I would use the both sides structure, positive, negative, chorus. The first chorus might wind up as:
That’s a weak first draft, but I think you see where I’m going. The first section would have the merits of solar, the second the negatives, chorus, then the merits of wind, then the negatives, chorus, merits of hydro, negatives, chorus, etc.
I’ll take a stab at the solar energy verses, just give me a minute…
Row and rows of collectors,
Shining roofs above each door,
Solar panels for rich and poor.
I’ve looked at sun that way.
But now the hidden costs I’ve gleaned:
The solar panels must be cleaned,
And batteries must be machined,
For while the sun’s away.
I’ve looked at sun from both sides now,
From dreams and costs, and still somehow,
The Dems, their eyes are blinded all,
They really don’t know sun at all.
Virgin sails turn in the sun
Providing juice for everyone.
A Schelfhout painting full of fun,
I’ve look at wind that way.
But now they only chop up birds,
Turn my neighbors’ brains to curds.
If wind’s too high, they turn to sherds,
and rain down parts all day.
I’ve looked at wind from both sides now,
From lies and truth, but still somehow,
The Dems, their eyes are blinded all,
They really don’t know wind at all.
Sunlight glitt’ring off the lake
We ski, we swim, we lay and bake,
While water falls just for our sake.
I’ve looked at dams that way.
But now they block off too much flow:
Endangered fish will lay no roe.
And when they burst, then we’ll all go
Downstream, washed away.
I’ve looked at dams from both sides now,
From up and down and still somehow
The Dems, their lies are told to all,
They really do not care…at all.
How’s that?
Hahaha I knew you’d do this. (Arahant: This does not scan at ALL. Iambs I must have iambs)
Very funny, Richard!
I could replace energy with fuel.
Alright, alright…as soon as I quit giggling, I’ll have this da*n tune stuck in my head the rest of the day!
The Dems know from wind. Producing it is their core competency.
Brilliant!
Here’s the Denver, Boise, and Johnson version:
Good enough for a late night. Oh, Johnny, if you were only still around.
Revised version incorporating Arahant’s suggestions:
AOC One Side Now
Rows and flows of angel hair
And Leftist castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at fuel that way
But now they cannot block the sun
That CO2 kills everyone
So many things I would have done
But planes were grounded to stay
I’ve looked at fuel from one side now
From windmills to solar and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really doesn’t know much at all
Moons and Junes and ferries wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As Leftist fairy tales come real
I’ve looked at fuel that way
But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em stranded when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give her goals away
I’ve looked at fuel from one side now
From renewable crap and still somehow
It’s AOC’s illusions I recall
She really…
Basically she is trying to repeal modernity (that took centuries to develop and build upon) and replace it in 10 years. Lenin would be jealous.
Two college degrees and a government job with benefits.
Five stars!
I’ve looked at green from both sides now,
From wind and sun, and still somehow
It’s coal’s cheap power I recall,
They really don’t make sense, at all.
Can a poem wake people up? Apparently AOC already has a gang of democrat candidates in waiting as well as congresspersons already signing on.
I’ve looked at pow’r from one side now
From sun and wind, and still somehow
There’s no improving gas and oil
Those Dems are clueless after all
Then there’s this classic from JibJab
The OP reminded me of the part at the end: “Stop the globe from getting warm, fuel your car with nuts and corn.”
We are finally going to properly inflate our tires, and then you’ll see.
Richard, you’ve got a hit there! Brilliant!
The world’s not going to allow us prols to heat our houses at 72 degrees. BHO is allowed to have the Oval Office at 78 degrees.
All I could think of was Green Eggs and Ham….fairy tale…but this was golden! I was singing the song – it’s great! We should all sing this at the next Ricochet call in together and it should be posted! It will be played on every station in the free world – well – ok – on Hannity, Limbaugh and Glenn Beck at least! Love it!
Do people want to sing it tomorrow and see if any of the conservative talk show hosts are interested in playing it?
