What the Heck Is Going on Around Here?
Just for fun, I’m going to list the opening sentence of the first 10 posts on the member feed. See if you notice the same thing that I did:
1) It started when I found a body and discovered a man.
2) From a forgotten camera, here’s something I photographed in Istanbul, at the end of my 2010 overland trip from Slovenia to Turkey:
3) Ad calamitatem quilibet rumor valet.
4) Arguments against Trumpism (however good or bad you believe it to be) are not, have never been, and never will be, arguments for progressivism.
5) A document has been posted on the internet that contains personal information for a number of conservatives, mostly NeverTrumpers, who jumped the gun (an understatement for some) last Saturday on the Covington Catholic School boys incident.
6) Monday, 21 January 2019, was a bright day for the Valley of the Sun.
7) You know, I’ve always wondered about marsupials.
8) Okay, so despite his numerous claims, it looks like he wasn’t really a Vietnam veteran.
9) Amazon Video is not merely a tool to watch Hollywood’s best; it is perhaps the best way of getting content with good writing, good acting, and good production values.
10) Science cannot tell us whether we should or should not do or allow something, but it can help us understand what that thing is.
Ok, so imagine if a new visitor were to read those first 10 opening sentences, and then try to explain to someone what this site was about. What would he say? Heck, what would you say? How do you describe the literary equivalent of Brownian Motion?
I’m not really sure either. But I like it. Whatever it is.
So carry on, everybody. With whatever it is that you’re doing out there. I don’t understand it. But I like it.

It’s about a lot of things. It’s about community. It’s about discussion of lots of Big Things. It’s about sharing who we are. Over in the Divine Help group folks ask for prayer for things that are troubling them, and they get it. And we get to learn more about each other and the dehumanizing effect of this sort of forum is minimized.
It’s social media without a lot of the horse pucky.
A new visitor wouldn’t see this. He’d see the Main Feed, and say with dreary accuracy: “It’s about politics.” But I am upvoting this post because I want it boosted to the Main Feed. Well, goad the editors into considering promoting it.
Can we goad the editors just to goad them? Ya know, for fun?
I would just take those first 10 sentences, combine them together to make a single post, and then tell people that it is a site for people with short attention spans.
Rico’s Member Community is very Special. And not in an Olympics kind of way.
As someone new and trying to figure things out–thanks for clarifying?
You see its like an orange…
I’m telling you, Ricochet Tin Foil Hats for sale on the merchandise tab, revenue problem solved!
I like Prager’s advice to introverts — be interesting. If you can do it for three hours in a room by yourself, you can be a radio talk show host. If you do it 24/7, you can be Ricochet.
You’ve hit on what I, as a long-time member, like best about Ricochet – the variety of topics. In truth, politics is probably my least-favorite topic here.
I am, of course, a constant source of Brownian Motion.
You’re welcome.
Firstly, welcome to the zoo!
Secondly, if you do happen to figure out what we’re all doing here, please do let us know.
Thanks!
At the risk of being arrogant, I think the OP demonstrates what we’re all doing here – demonstrating that ordered liberty is the best way to maximize results. We are doing grassroots idea development and discussion not directed in a common direction by some overlord.
Precisely.

Weird and serendipitous as it may be, at least today’s chain of posts is much more engaging and diverse than the opening sentences of the first 10 posts two days ago:
etc.
You know, it would be kind of neat if, say, once a week, such a compendium were automatically created and posted to the Main Feed — in part, as a teaser to non-member visitors.
(It would probably lead to some truly captivating first sentences, too.)
Ricochet is not all about politics . . .
And those were only the first sentences. This post ranged from Turkey to Slovenia to Viking Poetry to other national poetries, among other things. We’re all about the conversation.
