Ron DeSantis was sworn in as Governor of Florida today and immediately removed Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel from office, according to Fox News:
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who faced criticism over his department’s response to the deadly Parkland, Florida school shooting last year, was officially suspended by newly sworn-in Gov. Ron DeSantis, multiple sources told Fox News on Tuesday.
’bout time.
And he’s not jailing officials of the NRA responsible for the shootings? What about Marco Rubio?
Elections have consequences.

I thought sheriffs were elected.
Ya, this was my thought. States differ, but this would be pretty weird. Looks like it’s been debunked.
According this from the Tampa Bay Times,
Under the Florida Constitution, the governor has the power to suspend any Florida official not subject to impeachment. Once suspended, the state Senate may permanently remove an official from office — or reinstate him or her.
The governor can suspend officials for “malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony.”
Oookay. But it doesn’t sound like any of that has happened.
