These are the people who are leading our children’s education

According to an article in the Eugene (Oregon) Register Guard, the Superintendents of Schools for Oregon, Washington and California have petitioned the federal government to not classify students according to the traditional, medical definition of sex. Their “reasoning” is captured in a single sentence:

“Our understanding — and the assumption underlying policy in our states — is that gender is a spectrum that is not necessarily linked to biological sex.”

How did these people become so separated from the concepts of fact and truth? How does one live in a world without foundations?

Easy.  They belong to the party of science.  Science is that thing that “has spoken,” ending all discussion.

Guess I’m just a practical guy living in a practical world. So, have no clue what the purpose of this is.
Even more confounding—they expect to keep their taxpayer paid jobs muttering such nonsense ?
I understand political subversion as a—possible—means to attain power. But this ?

Maybe NTs have an explanation for it.

I seem to remember — way back in the day, before Science settled all matters — that the schools didn’t even raise the subject, apparently thinking we all knew, already.

I am glad my kids are grown.

Are we talking about 3 superintendents of schools?  Three people in positions of authority who have lost their minds? Will parents do anything about it?

If they’re in elected positions, the taxpayers have themselves to thank for such leadership.

Not to sound like Pauline Kael, but I don’t know anyone who thinks that way. How can a whole community—states ?—accept the idea that “Our understanding — and the assumption underlying policy in our states — is that gender is a spectrum that is not necessarily linked to biological sex.” ?!
This is as cockamamie as the idea of AGW. Have that many people gone off the rails ?
    Cui bono ?

What is the motivation of those who support this ?

OK. Please give us some insight into what your plot for “a spectrum that is not necessarily linked to biological sex” leads to; and, how it makes America great again.

The only reason we switched from “sex” to “gender” was avoid saying the word “sex” in documents.  I guess we should go back to labeling the category “sex” while the Leftists fight over redefining “gender”.   Luck for us our schools are so cost-effective and so super awesome that we don’t have any real problems to worry about . </sarc>

Words have gender, people have sex. I’ve gone back to saying “sex” and avoiding the word “gender” altogether.

Just for the record, if you can’t recognize sarcasm on its own merits, the use of the word “diabolical” as a self-descriptor could be a tip off.

We all know what happens to houses built on sand.

They stand perfectly fine because of their solid concrete foundations, while having breathtaking views of the ocean?

I think the whole sand things only applies to civilizations who haven’t mastered modern construction methods and material. So maybe some savages in Judea back 2000 years ago couldn’t do it out of mud and sticks, but we have steel, cement, and foam insulation.

Get with the times and update your idioms.

One thing about building on sand is you can break the rules about putting your concrete footings below frost depth and get by with it, at least where the soil/sand is dry enough.  Not that your local building inspectors will allow it. They are not into nuances.

It sounds like at some level they knew how stupid–and outrageous–the statement is. Let’s all blame the states.

Jim McConnell: How did these people become so separated from the concepts of fact and truth?

They have, each one individually, by way of thousands of unexamined decisions made in laziness, ignorance, fear, or sloth, fallen. That is, they have given the things of their mind precedence over things of the world.

    Jim McConnell:

How does one live in a world without foundations?

One experiences continual fear (the desire to be away from) in regard to reality. One experiences continual anger, which is cognitive dissonance severe enough to involve a hormonal (i.e. emotional) response. One learns the habit of fear and anger, which is hate.

Maybe science in this case should be in quotes along with many other references such as global warming (or climate change which is used for cover), the horrors of nuclear power, etc, where the “‘science’ has spoken.”  Real science has been a blessing to mankind so we shouldn’t be equating it with the nonsense these chuckleheads routinely spout.  As sad as this is, the MSM is on a tear to convince the public those idiots are right.  Oh for the days when there were real reporters…

First thought – why is this information being tracked anyway? What bearing does it have on education?

Second – is anyone going to explain why this is bad beyond “let’s all point at them and laugh”

This deserves a massive eyeroll. Seriously?

The idiom is fine and is built on the premise of a solid foundation. A house with no foundation does not stand.

Concrete is a rock. Should I imply idiocy on your part as you did me?
