Uncommon Knowledge: Thomas Sowell On The Myths Of Economic Inequality

Thomas Sowell discusses economic inequality, racial inequality, and the myths that have continued to falsely describe the system of poverty among different racial and economic classes. He explains the economic theories behind these pervasive myths and proposes fact-based solutions for seemingly intractable situations.

Sowell discusses his early life as a high school dropout and his first full-time job as a Western Union messenger delivering telegrams. He admits to flirting with Marxism in his early twenties as he first tried to grapple with the housing inequality he saw across the neighborhoods of New York City. Marxism, he says, was the only explanation he could find at the time. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps before continuing his education in economics at Harvard and earning a master’s at Columbia and a PhD at the University of Chicago.

Recorded on November 15, 2018.

Is the podcast feed no longer being updated? The last episode I see in the podcast is from April 19.

Delete that feed and re-subscribe and you’ll get all the new shows. Hoover changed the hosting provider last spring and many people did not get automatically switched over. That said, we’d much prefer you’d watch the show rather than listen to it. :-)

It’s really tough to differentiate Dr. Sowell’s appearances on Uncommon Knowledge since his sartorial preferences are updated about as frequently as the design of the UncKnow set.

    ;-)

But seriously, when a Dr. Sowell interview pops up in my YouTube feed my silly brain immediately assumes that it’s a rerun.  Maybe the words “NEW INTERVIEW” should be flashed on the screen in big red letters.

I have to admit I originally went to the Hoover site to check to see if it was a new interview for just the reasons you stated. (Spoiler alert: it is new.)

Thank you! For some reason the resubscribe didn’t work with Podcast Addict on Android, but PocketCasts did pick up the correct feed.

I’ll give watching the video a try, but I tend to watch at 1.5x or 2x, which can look a bit odd. But I can hide it behind other windows.

We only post new shows on the Main Feed.

The Uncommon Knowledge episode with the Spongebob Squarepants set design was great!
