I’ll summarize it for you. We’re stuck in Afghanistan. US troops will be there for a long time. We’ll be giving them foreign aid for a long time. And if we stop doing either of these things, if we take our eyes off these folks for one minute, they will attack us again like they did on 9/11. FUBAR.

We pay off the people we can bargain with. Bomb the you know what out of those who won’t make deals.

Did not listen to it because anyone who tells you what will happen in Afghanistan is lying.

The logistical tail to support ongoing ops and culture there make our policy and current objectives impossible to achieve.  Afghanistan is where we should send our military solely when we want to conduct real world practice of punitive expeditions.

Disclaimer:  I am a hick from Missouri and did not attend an ivy league school so obviously I am wrong about this just as assuredly is my Winning the Peace™ concept.

On the other hand, we are in good hands with our Ruling Class who have this and our southern border under control.

It seems that Hoover, in addition to recording many of their programs at low audio volume (Ricochet, in contrast, is almost always recorded at a decent level), wants to push everything into iTunes.  If you don’t do iTunes-subscribed-fed-to-your-phone (I hate cell phones and only turn mine on to make, you know, phone calls) you are an undesirable these days.

Why is it that Ricochet can disseminate great podcasts in a way that is compatible with all audiences but so many other organizations refuse to do so?

Where are you looking to listen to the audio version of UK? I’ll look into there volume issue. Probably has more to do with the fact that the show audio is mixed for TV/YouTube than anything else.

Howdy, SI!  I D/L the simple and unlayered mp3 files directly from Ricochet and then transfer them to my SanDisk MP3, which my laptop sees as a simple memory card.  I don’t carry my phone or listen on it, I don’t ever grab files that have extra stuff (DRM, data sets, anything) piled on them.  I pull audio off of YouTube files if I really want to listen to them, but you are correct, sometimes the audio off of YouTube is soft, so I forget that as well.  When a podcast is done right, it is readily audible.  Ricochet’s generally are well done, Hoovers bat about 50-50, Area 45 is the worst for useful sound.  Uncommon Knowledge is simply inaccessible unless I want to waste my time sitting in front of the computer.

I assume that Hoover stopped its nice neat feedburner page in an attempt to squeeze us all through iTunes, for whatever extra benefits they get from that.  Since I have zero interest in any podcast to-phone subscription approach, my curmudgeonly response to such podcast strategies is to go listen to something else.
