Meanwhile, the Left, including this reporter for the Guardian, refuse to acknowledge any hateful rhetoric among their own:
I saw the president’s remarks. My friend, watching with me, said they should just have an instant death penalty for these people. Just have a firing squad that afternoon.
People are sick and tired of all the delays and the 10 years of appeals. They’re sick of hearing that he’s crazy or that his parents never got him a pony.
It is hard to find current statistics , but what I could find tends more towards 20 years on death row.
It’s hard to believe the cops are that inept.
I am sick at heart for the families of the innocent who were there only to worship God.
Does the red yarmulke have any significance?
No. He may have liked the color, more likely, a daughter or granddaughter made it for him.
And this sitting President has had numerous threats against his OWN children.
Receiving all of the blame for this will not sit well with the right.
The legal barriers the Left has put up before a person can be executed are sickening.
I would like to see a cold-blooded killer executed on the first anniversary of the court’s decision. That gives the defense a full year to make their case.
And it matters little to me how he is executed: firing squad, electric chair, gas chamber, chemical ingestion — whatever. But the killer doesn’t get to choose his method — unless he gave his victim a choice. Only then can the killer can choose the way he will die. Otherwise, the state chooses.
The ridiculous number of appeals and length of time before execution has a terrible effect: It undermines our respect for the law.
I have concluded that the law is an ass. I’m probably not alone.
So like how Che did it?
I don’t think that you would want to live in a society where the police simply execute people. Some people do not survive police shootings, and some do. You keep shooting until someone is no longer a threat, if they survive then it’s up to the court. if they don’t survive then you could say they got what they deserved.
You are taught to aim for center mass, the easiest part of the target to hit. That reduces the chance of throwing out rounds that might hit innocent bystanders. It’s highly unlikely that someone will survive multiple center mass hits, but sometimes they do.
Can’t deny that I’d find it fitting if he’d not survived the altercation with the police. But here we are, and “due process” is the order of the day. Because “that’s who we are” (ugh).
My poster child for my discomfort with this, is my former employee. I fired him, while scared out of my wits, in the presence of my co-manager, “retired” USMC (and someone I’d trust with my life). At the same time, my other fellow manager (also “retired” USMC and good in a fight) stood outside the door, hospital security waited in the building lobby, and the Washington, PA police were lined up outside the front door. Fortunately he went quietly, although I checked my back for weeks going to and from work, and in and out of the building. It was a truly frightening time in my life.
Eighteen months after I fired him, he murdered his wife, his wife’s sister, his father-in-law, and his three year old niece. On September 11 of all things. But of 1999. His name is Nawaz Ahmed. He’s a Pakistani. He was apprehended at the last minute, at La Guardia airport, attempting to leave the US to return to Pakistan with his two young sons.
Nineteen years, untold rejected appeals, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer-funded medical bills later, he’s still on death row in Ohio.
There must be a better solution. I don’t know what it is, but there must be a better one.
It doesn’t always take forever. I lived in Dallas for about seven years, with a six month break in the middle. Almost the first night I was in town, there was a multiple murder during a robbery. The guy was executed just before I moved out of town.
Ha good point. I hope people don’t get so fed up that they’d see nothing wrong with that. I certainly am aware that there have been innocent people convicted of murder, and that gives one pause regarding the death penalty. But in cases such as Susan Smith, the woman who murdered her two little sons because the man she was dating didn’t want kids, and there was no doubt as to her guilt, I don’t see why the death penalty wasn’t imposed. And when they didn’t give it to her, it made me wonder why it’s even on the books.

Seven years is six years too long. In my view, one year is about right.

I have to wonder, can this crime be federalized? Could this be classified as terror/hate crime, and he end up in a federal super-max where his access to media be severely restricted. (until execution).

I believed President would, go further at the rally, than he did earlier in the day before the young people of the FFA. Boy, did he! The title of this OP was fully justified [emphasis added to show POTUS inflection]:

We should not federalize crimes. We have far too many already. The point is to squeeze those states without the death penalty to bring it back, and to reverse the leftist lawfare, abetted by too many life-tenure black-robed political activists.
I agree. At least if you get in up front, it doesn’t feel as sleazy. To me these deaths are the quintessential case for hate crime charges. If it can’t be applied here, it should be repealed.
(I hated the way the Obama administration went after cops, after a jury found them not guilty. (specifically thinking of the Brown shooting, here) made me question the DOJ’s commitment to due process, and double jeopardy)
