Search and Destroy

I watched almost every single minute of this pathetic exercise in how far so-called well educated and accomplished people can go when they are devoid of any shame or boundaries whatsoever and will do anything, including destroy one of the finest men to ever be nominated to the Supreme Court, and his beautiful family, his devoted wife and their little daughters, one of whom prayed for “the lady” at her nightly prayers, and all his family, his stricken Mother and Father, and his friends. I watched because I wanted, once and for all, to know for myself, and not from the now-totally-out-of-control media but from what I saw for myself what really happened.

What happened today was, as one of the Republican Senators said, worse than the Bork hearings and worse than the Thomas hearings, as hard as that is to believe. If you had watched every minute of it, you would well know what I mean. The Judge was right on the target when he said “Advise and Consent” had now become “Search and Destroy,” in addition to becoming an audition for candidates for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020.

What happened today, also, at least for this one viewer, is that I will never — although I was very close to this before today — never, never, never ever again believe the summary presented to us by the media, and in this I very sadly and reluctantly include the only news outlet I still have any faith in, Fox News, to tell me what really happened in a given event. I will always insist on having to see it, from stem to stern, with my own eyes. The very idea that Fox News would have a Valley Girl airhead like Marie Harf commenting on a man of the unbelievable substance of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and telling viewers what he said and how he said it, is as insulting as I can imagine anything being in this admittedly upside-down world we are now living in.

I made myself watch all of this so I could know whether my previous feeling that the Democrats on this committee were among the most corrupt people who have ever served in the US Senate was well founded. I came away with a deep and abiding certainty that they were not only that, but that they were some of the most mindlessly ruthless and heartless group of people (?) who have ever been gathered in the already checkered and spotty history of that “Most Exclusive Club In The World.”

If this is what an exclusive club looks like, I’ll just say what Uncle Earl Long said years ago. Someone asked whether he didn’t resent it that he had never been admitted to the ultra-elite Boston Club in New Orleans even though he had been elected Governor. Long said, “the only way they would let me in would be if I had a mask and a gun.”

That’s the kind of image I got with senators (who actually votes for some of these people?) who actually spent the time we pay them to do serious matters asking about whether a 17-year-old boy really meant to write about flatulence and whether or not the “f” symbol really meant the “f-word.”

As a person who has dealt with far more lying witnesses than I care to actually count in some of our cases, I must admit to a feeling of some kind of awe that the Most Honorable Ranking Member, as we are supposed to refer to her in “polite company,” as if there is any such thing any more, could actually make her little speech about how innocent she is in front of an entire world which now knows, beyond peradventure, that she concealed “Dr” Ford’s letter for about seven weeks, a time in which all of this could have been investigated thoroughly and in a way that would have completely honored her request for confidentiality.

The oiliness of Durbin, the strangely sinister mien of the “Ranking Member” who caused this entire nightmare, the moron who is the Senator from Hawaii, who, amazingly, today I learned is a graduate of one of the most distinguished law schools in the country, Georgetown, the rank idiocy of “T-Bone Spartacus,” the smallness, in so many ways, of the pathetic little Chris Coons, the downright frightening demeanor of the probable next Democrat nominee for president, Kamala Harris, the reptilian approach of perhaps the most wretched of all, as he lied about his military service, Blumenthal, and the fact that, as one of the prominent Republicans noted, they have already reserved a URL for the next nominee, causes me to — truly — weep for the future of our country. I simply do not know how we survive repeated flows of sewage like this through the Public Square without despoiling it beyond repair.

God Bless Judge and Mrs. Kavanaugh and their beautiful family and the really great heroes of this day like Lindsey Graham and Sen. Tillis and Cruz and Lee and Kennedy and Hatch and Cornyn and Grassley and God Help America if this is what our future holds.

We’re at an impasse with the other half of the country. They don’t want the same things we want and they’re willing to violate all conventions of decent, ethical behavior to get what they want (which is power over every aspect of our lives). We need to stop fooling ourselves about this.

I have no idea how to resolve it. An amicable divorce is unlikely. I can only hope the #WalkAway movement is significant enough to put the Democrats out of the power game for a while. But, then, I remind myself, at the height of the Soviet Union, only 10% of the population belonged to the Communist Party. It puts proof to the old adage, one bad apple…

    Good post.

I have one thing to add about your criticism of the committee Democrats. Sen. Klobuchar we must exclude from this. She tepidly played the party line about the need for an FBI investigation. But it seemed to me that everything in her face and body language was screaming that she could hardly bear to play along with the charade, even in this small way.

I am praying for her tonight.

Exactly as you say, Jim. I watched it all, too, and completely share your disgust at the lack of basic decency of the Democrats on stage today.

I also share your displeasure with the Fox coverage. Maybe they were trying to live up to their motto of “Fair and Balanced,” but if so, that was not the correct approach, given the antics of the Democrats throughout this whole sorry exercise.

    Great post. Thanks.

If my Facebook feed is any indication, no one’s mind was changed by the circus.

Folks who stand with the accuser are totally ready to drop all semblance of care for due process and the presumption of innocence. I’ve lost respect for people, who I knew I disagreed with politically, but had no idea they were willing to drop all for the political win.

The people who think Judge Kavanaugh was defeated and unfairly defamed think the accuser is mentally ill.

The Democrats on the committee didn’t come out very well in anybody’s book.

Me? I think Dr. Blasey-Ford may have been assaulted but there seems to be no real life linkage to Judge Kavanaugh. His life is in tatters.

I take comfort knowing he is a man of faith and he has a friend and mentor who has walked this path before waiting for him on the Court.

At first I was embarrassed for everyone involved in that episode, then I started laughing.

I am willing to bet South Park runs with it, except it may not be as funny.

OMG Are you hearing them right now? Whitehead or Whitehouse or whatever his name is? They’re going to keep this FBI stuff up even after he’s confirmed. He’ll never know another moment’s peace if they have their way. In addition to losing the election, they’ve lost their minds.

    Jim George: Mrs. Kavanaugh

I love the look on her face when Whitehorse had him define “ralph”. Morons.

    Get out there and vote!

    Afternoon Jim,

You mentioned that you would never trust the media, I would add that the media is the “enemy of the people” or culture, or the Western world, or however one wants the phrase the idea. Would you go that far. The first time I noticed the gulf between the information presented in a hearing and how it was reported was during a hearing on nuclear warhead defense, including the idea of “dense pack”.

Her body language means naught if she votes to reject.

Goodly people can still do bad things.

I’m from Minnesota. Klobuchar never, ever leads on anything important. She votes as far left as possible as she can, while at the same time being unmemorable in any way she can get away with. She will be senator for life.

Kav should have asked the Senators if they thought this was a job interview.

Now they are mailing a big deal about Mark Judge, like all of the lawyers and stories are just a tactic to hide damning information.

I’ve been saying it long before DJT ever said it. And “treasonous,” “traitorous,” “lying,” “left wing lap dogs” bastards, too.

The Democrats didn’t lose this one. The machinery they built to go after Kavanagh will be used pour encourager les autres. Trump’s potential pool of SCOTUS nominees may just have shrunk.

The machinery will be used to savage inconvenient decisions Kavanagh is involved in if he’s confirmed.

Don’t get me wrong. A Kavanagh confirmation is essential for Trump, and as such it will have staved off a political catastrophe and in that sense would be a victory.

Steven Hayward is on a roll at Powerline:

But do not think this matter is over. The left is not going to give up on Kavanaugh. I’m sure Jane Mayer is already working on Strange Justice 2, a sequel to her egregious and mendacious book on Clarence Thomas, Strange Justice. If you think what happened to Ted Cruz in a DC restaurant last week was bad, just consider that soon-to-be Justice Kavanaugh will now have to travel everywhere with security for the rest of his life, and probably can’t dine out peacefully in Washington DC with his family. Meanwhile, Dr. Ford is going to become the newest celebrity on the left. By some accounts she already has $900,000 pledged to her in various GoFundMe accounts, and I’m sure a book deal and an HBO movie are already in the works. She’s certain to be a celebrity on Nation magazine cruises, a poster-child for NOW, and so forth. How long before she starts doing joint appearances with Anita Hill? (By the way, it is only morning as I write: what are the chances Michael Avenatti or some other apparatchik floats a new accusation before the end of the day?)

I expect that Democrats will promise to impeach Kavanaugh (and maybe Thomas, too) if they can gin up more stories. Failing that, expect that if Democrats win the White House and Congress in 2020, they’ll move to expand the Supreme Court to 11 justices, on grounds that Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, and Thomas are illegitimate members.

Final irony: When Neil Gorsuch was appointed, some cooler heads among the Democrats said they ought not to filibuster Gorsuch and prompt McConnell to finish what Harry Reid started, but instead save their filibuster for the next nominee to replace Kennedy. But they couldn’t help themselves. If the filibuster for the Supreme Court was still in place now, I doubt Republicans would be willing to go to the “nuclear option” in this circumstance. That would be one step too far. So once again, hats off to Harry Reid, and to Democratic intransigence.

Needless to say, Week in Pictures tomorrow is going to be epic, and you can guess the theme.

    UPDATE—Well, this didn’t take long:

NEXT STEP: DEMOCRATS PLEDGE TO INVESTIGATE KAVANAUGH, FLOAT IMPEACHMENT IF HE’S CONFIRMED

Liberal activists and journalists Thursday predicted a push to impeach Kavanaugh if he is confirmed and Democrats retake Congress. . .

It’s wonderful how the Left is helping Ford. $900K so far in crowdfunding and a book deal. Do you think she knew beforehand that this would happen? That would be shocking, shocking.

Oh, I do so hope they go after ACB for her faith if she’s next (although, who could blame her if she withdrew from the process, what with her family to protect?). Freedom of conscience is even appealing to people on the Left. Even non-believers mostly want people to have religious rights.

Freedom of conscience is appealing to normals. For the Left… not hardly.
