On Surveys and Monkeys

I had about 170 responses to my survey, most of which came from Ricochet. But unless I fork over $40, they will only let me see 100 responses. I’m a cheapskate, plus I got guns to buy, so I ain’t forkin’ it over. Still, some folks have asked to see the results of the first 100 responses, so here they are.

For those of you bad at math, since there are exactly 100 responses, the percentage and the number for each choice are…the same. But the third column has Arizona Patriot’s predictions.

Response Result AP
ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORT: I enthusiastically support Trump. Generally speaking, I think that the behavior for which he is criticized is part of a brilliant marketing and communication strategy. I take him seriously but not literally. Among other things, his style has successfully forced the Left into revealing their anti-Americanism and maneuvered them into defending the indefensible. Check out my MAGA hat! 19% 5-10%
SOLID SUPPORT: I solidly support Trump with reservations. I recognize that he has impulse control issues and significant moral flaws. On balance, however, his record of conservative achievement far outweighs these problems. I do wish that he would tweet less. 38% 30-35%
RELUCTANT SUPPORT: I reluctantly support Trump. I think that he is deceptive and of poor moral character, and am very disappointed that he has become the leader of the Republican Party. However, the alternative is so bad that I must overlook these profound flaws. I do really, really like the judicial appointments, the tax cuts, the deregulation, and Secretary Mattis. 29% 45-50%
UNDECIDED: I remain undecided about Trump. 8% 5%
NEVER TRUMP: I am unalterably opposed to Trump. I think that he is wrecking the Republican Party and the Conservative movement, and will discredit my values for years, or even decades, to come. As painful as it is, I am even considering supporting and voting for Democrats as the only viable mechanism to restore the party of Reagan and true Conservative principles. I’m eagerly awaiting the McCain funeral video. 6% 5-10%

First, Spin, many thanks for pulling this off.

Second, everybody, thanks for voting. This is the largest sample that I’ve seen yet.

Third, my analysis. I know that this is not necessarily even a representative sample of Ricochet members. My guesses were that the President had pretty strong support, and the survey shows significantly stronger support than I expected.

Rounding a bit, the overall numbers are:

    30% enthusiastically support Trump
    40% strongly support Trump
    20% reluctantly support Trump

I suggest that we not use this to beat up the small percentage of Never Trump folks. They should be welcome here, and they are in a small minority, so their frustration is understandable.

Personally, I am surprised that enthusiastic supporters outnumber the reluctant. I don’t mean this to be critical, just that I did not expect it.

I vary from being NeverTrump to Highly Reluctant Trump. A hallmark of Ricochet is that I am able to co-exist with my fellows, and not be shouted off the stage.

Gary, with all due respect, you vary from being NeverTrump to being AbsolutelyNeverTrump, unless things have changed in the last month.

You will be unsurprised when you correct your transposition of the numbers.

And I’d like people to be able to commend him for things and not get accused of being in the tank for Trump.

I think Deep State’s got a really good shot to make some waves this year. A lot of media buzz around that program and it’s easy to see why. They’ve got veteran leadership and some promising freshmen.

If they can stay focused, play as a team, and avoid the injury bug, I think a late December bowl is a real possibility. And you know their crowd will be fired up for those home games. What an intimidating atmosphere they create down at the old Soggy Marsh. Those Leaker fans bleed redaction black!

If only Deep State could coordinate its defense better it would surely be able to gain the upper hand in its games early on. But it always seems like they are scrambling without a game plan, and leaving it all on their wildcat offense to pull through.

    Deep State recruitment is poor.

John, thanks for catching my error.  I fixed it in the original above (showing the changes, and giving you credit).
