Fr. James Schall asks the question Why Be (or Continue to Be) Catholic?
A dose of Schall is always good for one’s mind, body, and soul.
In comment #27, I brought up the name of Cardinal McCarrick. It’s funny how these stories connect sometimes. LifeSiteNews.com has just reported that Cardinal McCarrick has been removed from public ministry for credible and substantiated allegations of abuse of a minor.
In typically disgusting fashion with these reports of abuse, both the bishop of Metuchen, NJ, Bishop James Checchio, and the bishop of Newark, NJ, Archbishop Joseph Tobin, said that the dioceses had no record of McCarrick abusing a minor and that no accusations of abuse of minors had been received. But both dioceses admitted that accusations of incidents with adults had been received, and payoffs had been made. So I suppose that these bishops are against homosexual abuse of minors but are OK with homosexual relations between adults. Slowly – very slowly – these old perverts are being weeded out.
The LifeSite article also goes into more detail on the point I had originally made, that McCarrick had withheld the document from Cardinal Ratzinger on denying communion to pro-abortion politicians and had also downplayed what the document said.
I’ll pray that McCarrick repents, confesses his sins, and is absolved, and I’ll also wish him good riddance. He has been a cancer on the Church for long enough.
