Haters of Israel Will be Happy Now

From Fox News:

At least 37 Palestinians were killed Monday and more than 900 wounded as protests at the Gaza border with Israel turned deadly ahead of the U.S. Embassy opening in Jerusalem, Palestinian health officials said.

The bloodiest day in weeks of demonstrations could become even more chaotic as Israel vows to hold back thousands of protesters and prevent the possibility they could breach the border at any cost. Over 35,000 protesters at 12 locations have amassed along the Gaza security fence.

This is only the beginning. The international peace organizations will be screaming for Israel to lay down its arms. Tomorrow even more protestors will show up to rush the Gaza border fence for Nakba Day, the Arab’s “Day of Catastrophe.” And more people will die.

And so the story goes…

Daled Amos has a good post up on Hamas’ innovative use of human shields in Gaza.

Hamas terrorists may very well have elevated the exploitation of human shields to an art. For years, they have taken advantage of the civilian population in Gaza by hiding among them, while targeting the civilian population of Israel with their rockets.

Now Hamas has done something new. The media would have you believe that Gazans in general, and Hamas in particular, are experimenting for the first time with peaceful protests, reminiscent of Martin Luther King and Selma. In reality, what is new is that Hamas has been using tens of thousands of Gazans — including children — as cover while trying to infiltrate Israel, both on land by breaching border fences and by air using kites carrying Molotov cocktails.

This is horrendous. These people have no soul. And what about the people giving up their own children. This passion is a sickness that spreads through the population endlessly with no end in sight. It breaks my heart. Thanks, @ontheleftcoast.

I understand what you’re saying, @songwriter. The latest update, from the Gaza ministry of health (for what that’s worth), says 52 have been killed and 2,400 injured.

I wonder about that, too, @kevinschulte. At the same time, the people chose Hamas to run their government. I’m sure they knew they were terrorists, too, but they wanted to hold on to the “services” they provided. Now they get the whole package. Maybe Hamas doesn’t want to talk about merging with the West Bank because they know the people will never accept the possibility of Hamas being in charge. And if Abbas dies? Who knows?

I agree, @rufusrjones. As far as I can see, all the terrorist groups (including Palestinian organizations) just want to be in power. Period.

People pay protection money to the mob because they fear the mob if they don’t. I suspect votes are like that too with Hamas.

No free elections there. Not to say Hamas wouldn’t win a free election. I suspect they would.

    Again, sad.

Some would say it started 3,000 years ago. How to undo it? That’s the 6 million dollar question. If you’re interested on regular information on the area, go to http://www.carolineglick.com. She has an excellent book  on the region that suggests a one-state solution and gives lots of background for the current state of affairs.

So many things like this turn into a mafia dynamic. How many of the Hamas power structure are just sadistic mafia thieves and how many are “principled religious” types, now? What is Iran really like in this sense? 80% – 20%? Sick.

China, Venezuela, Russia, the “…stans” North Korea. Etc.

I could give a bunch of trite examples from our government to go along with this.

Wouldn’t that be great?! I do wonder, however, how the Israelis feel about banners lining the streets that say, “Trump Makes Israel Great!” Somehow I think a sabra might just resent the implication . . .

Word has it that in the final few hours Hamas members in plain clothes were telling people to stop.

The US is standing firmly with Israel.

Israel is remarkably united that we must do what we’re doing.

The world reactions are pretty limited. Arab countries are condemning but that’s all they’ll do. Germany’s statement is pretty soft, affirms Israel’s right to defend it’s borders, and calls for Hamas to cede control of Gaza.

President Trump absolutely wants to establish that nations must defend their borders from those who try to storm it. And Europe may be realizing that they need to establish that principle too.

The loss of life is tragic. But I think this will hurt Hamas with the people of Gaza. I don’t think this will escalate. Thank God they have no better military options. And maybe, just maybe, this is a late-stage desperation ploy that failed and we’re not far away from something awfully close to surrender.

I keep thinking of the street demonstrations in the 1960s in Berkeley where the cadres would make sure that kids 11-13 or 14 would be up front with half bricks and baseball sized rocks to throw at the cops.

It was a win-win for the cadres: a win if a stone injured or killed a cop, a big PR win if a kid was injured or killed by a cop trying to stop them.

Those are the days the Left is nostalgic for in the US and Europe.

Friends of mine in Israel who are not too political LOVE this President. After the Iran Deal travesty, they feel they have a true friend in America again.

No. We are a grateful people. We have streets named after Balfour, Allenby, Pierre Koenig, Wingate, Cyrus the Great and George V. We do tend to wait until they are dead, though.

@gilreich, this is wonderful news! I hope that you are right. When you so “we’re not far away from surrender,” do you mean that Hamas may stop “protesting,” or something bigger? (You can’t blame me for hoping.) Thanks so much for the update. Feel free to chime in at any point to share your insights.
